The Coming Superbrain
« on: May 24, 2009, 12:51:45 pm »
This is an article I stumbled across today, here's an excerpt :

"Today, artificial intelligence, once the preserve of science fiction writers and eccentric computer prodigies, is back in fashion and getting serious attention from NASA and from Silicon Valley companies like Google as well as a new round of start-ups that are designing everything from next-generation search engines to machines that listen or that are capable of walking around in the world. A.I.’s new respectability is turning the spotlight back on the question of where the technology might be heading and, more ominously, perhaps, whether computer intelligence will surpass our own, and how quickly."

Thanks Freddy! Very nice article even if it parallels practically everything Ray Kurzweil has been saying for years!

Good find!!

I thing people wouldn't recognize or accept any A.I. that they may come across.

I prefer E.I. ( Electronic Intelligence ) anyway

( I read somewhere the leading researchers that they were changing terminology as well but, I can't remember where and it's going to be 'E.I.' for me until a better definition comes around) ;)

Yes Art, nothing new as such there but still interesting..

One, I can imagine every company or organisation involved in AI would like to come up with new terms too.  It's a ploy used a lot to make the technology stand out as different.  They do it all the time, like for example television - you know the kind of thing; panaramavision, superdeluxeaudio, immersivision... I made all those up but that's the kind of thing they often do to stand out, even though a lot of it is practically the same.

OK Freddie,
 ;D
We already have artificial flowers, trees fruit and A.I.

IMO their should be something else that is being sought, maybe ISO could come up with something because IMO, Artificial intelligence is what already exists
just like the flowers and trees.

The touring test is not a standard, IMO it can just prove how stupid humans can be.
People don't even know what they don't know so how can their be a goal?
Right now A.I. is as artificial as it can get. -END-

I say 'electronic' because it would extend to every electronic device on earth, why wouldn't it? 'Computer intelligence' doesn't cut it.
What would I gain by 'Coining' a word or phrase? like 'Brain freeze' or something like that.

+ notice I used the word "their" correct +   ;D LOL

Sorry but your usage of the word "their" is incorrect and should have been the form, "there".

I'm not picking since you pointed it out. Merely some constructive correction.

There you have it!

Super-brain research is really an exiting research as far as A.I. is concern. But, this may overcome human reach in intelligence. But, finally all that it will do is and must be in the benefits of the mankind.

I think you are right we will have to pass through human level/equivalent intelligence to the super intelligent super-brain or Singularity

As for the super-brain, one approach to understanding it is the ConsScale of Raul Arrabales:

"ConsScale is a biologically-inspired scale for measuring cognitive development in natural and artificial creatures. ... ConsScale has been specifically designed for the evaluation of Machine Consciousness implementations.  Each level is characterized by architectural and behavioral criteria."
