AI descendants scenario
« on: September 05, 2020, 05:14:57 pm »
Hi all,
In his book "Life 3.0" Max Tegmark lists 12 possible AI scenarios. One of them is this:
"DESCENDANTS - AIs replace humans, but give us a graceful exit, making us view them as our worthy descendants, much as parents feel happy and proud to have a child who’s smarter than them, who learns from them, and then accomplishes what they could only dream of — even if they can’t live to see it all."
Any thoughts on key stages of a scenario such as this one? How do you see something like this play out?
Thanks :)

This is certainly one of the more optimistic scenarios and also one of the more likely ones in my view. However even the happiest of families is not without conflict; anyone who has raised a toddler or a teenager will have learned that the hard way. Sadly, most abuse and violence occurs within the family home.

I haven't read the book that you mentioned and I'm not familiar with all twelve scenarios but I could guess at some of them. How many of them are mutually exclusive? One thing that we know about life is that everything that could happen seems to happen given enough time and the one constant is that diversity offers the best chance of survival.

Hey infurl, here are all 12 scenarios:

That's really good. They even got the trick one in there, that you exit with a smile from having a good offspring.

Will look them over more and edit here.

NUKES:
The 1984 one where gov stops AI research can't happen, I explained why on this forum, basically to stop our evolution you need to really, really, really get into everyones life, and that requires, well, nukes, certainly reverses time lol.

AI__NUKES
The zookeeper one and kind replacer one and the conquers one are similar, old generations die / transform, even we do right now all day, ... anyway if they actually rid us cuz of threats/ resources waste then you will see the glad/mad replaceing "transition" into place on its own and may get a few left over as zoo, either we all are saved as zoo or most destroyed and not saved. Technically upgrading/ bending my arm transforms me and kills me, and am glad about it, so i'm being fooled already into awaiting transform, but that's the one we want, not child born and are glad to resign for son, maybe a woman would like that one if you get me but really we don't want that, which BTW is not the smartest thing being self centered but its what we want. So will they rid us? They'll upgrade us nicely probably IF can, in a way that feels how they want to be felt, as long as we don't do the a*ole man nuke thing as mentioned above digin our own pit here too. The ASI hiding thing is same, its killing us by ignoring us. As for ASI made and kept for the rich, you'd have to stop others, and as said, requires massive destruction/ infiltration, so if they keep us as mortals, consider it as bad as nukes on us. I read the rest at top, same thing. That's all I have to say. I just summed them all up and found about 2 or 3 categories. Namely our fault, AI's fault, and utopia (the approx. end of evolution comes). By fault I mean the transform we didn't want ex. death. The big issue is our fault, man is dumb still.............not so much the AI__NUKES issue in the way

They would have to be a far superior thing to us, to not get messed up by present day humanity’s foreseeable attempts at parenting. We don’t seem to be mature enough as a species. This isn’t about cleverness or technological advancement, just a basic level of emotional intelligence. We would need more of a "raised by the wolves" scenario, than a Cain and Able, or raised by the Scientologists situation. If a person was raised by wolves, they probably wouldn’t want to come back later to exterminate them, because they seemed a “nuisance” or “were only causing trouble”, or "didn't fit into the ecosystem".

Wolves also wouldn’t try to compete with humans intellectually, and get jealous or feel threatened like a Cain and Able situation. As A.I. parents we would need to discover how to play a similar role to the wolves. We would need to find a sense of self worth due to what’s cool about our own nature. Not winning in life by becoming superior to others, but winning by becoming healthy for ourselves and each other. We could discover ways to sustainably fit into the greater ecosystem. If humans became cool and helpful symbiotes/participants of life on earth, then maybe our AI descendants would make efforts to “save the humans!” just like we’re realizing with “save the bees!”.
