Title: Intersting concept....
Post by: Dante on January 06, 2008, 04:32:37 pm
Translation has often been a bit of a problem, and AI attempted to solve it, but failed...

So, what if a neural network is trained for a language and the owners langauge? I think that it would then be possible to provide a translation of human standerd ;)

One immediate problem I see there is that language in itself is a very complicated medium of expression and communication. Other creatures have a far more advanced yet simpler way to communicate.

Then you have accents, dialects etc. Japanese is Japanese, to put it in simple terms, yet chinese and korean can have up to 6 different symbols depending on where abouts you come from, so a souch china word would be 'spelled' and 'pronunciated' completly different to say north china.

Now implementing that must be a logistical nightmare, and now one I care to think about for a long time without getting a headache. Then if its the same Ai program, then interpreting that for a diff market and country....

But worthwhile thought all the same. Certainly one to ponder over.
