Microsoft's Project Natal
« on: June 04, 2009, 02:35:14 am »
Quite the cutting edge for a system that can do all that they claim. Although it sort of doesn't fall into the category, in a way of sort of also does...go figure...maybe it's the meds talking.

Whatever, it's from one of my favorite sites for neato stuff and things so check it out!

Hard not to find it, it was all over the AI blogosphere...

It's interesting, but the guy who presented it has a reputation of saying "This is gonna be great, here is a tech vid" and guess what? It wasnt the same tech you'd be using but an extremely cut down one...

Still, I look forward to playing an RPG on my Xbox and acutally talking to the characters...providing they can understand me and not expect me to talk in a American accent...

Natal sounds great, but I'm still looking ahead to immersive VR. Especially true VR.

wgb14,

The old saying rings true..."The deaf man thinks the dancer is crazy."

*********************

lrh9,

Could you elaborate a bit to the extent of the immersiveness   of the VR.

Minority Reportish or Lawn Mower Manish? Heh! Heck...they're just words!

I was thinking Matrix VR. Virtual reality so realistic you could mistake it as real.

You and the rest of us might already be players or actors inside a huge virtual world. Much like the other characters in the Matrix, they really didn't know it was a world / scenario that had already been played out several times before. They didn't really know about the "creator" and the previous incarnations of the program.

What if WE are acting out our lives within a very large matrix and much like them, some of us feel there might be a creator yet we have never seen nor met him. Therefore, for the vast majority of us, we only think this is the first time around for us when in fact, it might be our 3rd, 4th, 5th or more time around. Perhaps that's why we sometimes have these feelings of Deja Vu...as if we've seen, heard, felt or done this or something else before.  How many times have you seen what you thought was a perfect stranger yet you felt as if you had seen him / her before or knew just what they were going to do or say?

Why some religions believe in reincarnation? Do they know something that the rest of us do not? Have we walked the same path before but in different footsteps?

Yes...dream on about a virtual matrix / world...Just be careful that you don't truly wake up and see the real world around you!!

This is good stuff to go on! ;)

I wasn't implying or intending to bring religion in the discussion. I've made it a point over my many years on this planet NOT to bring up Politics nor Religion in mixed company. It was merely a statement.

I was referring to the "Creator" in the Matrix as nothing more than that...the Creator or Ultimate Programmer. Nothing was mentioned about any bible character. The Matrix trilogy actually WAS very symbolic regarding biblical religion if one really watched it. That being aside, I liked the VR effect of being "connected" to an alternate universe / world.
It's all just a very big, complex program isn't it.  Some things can be taken at face value while others need some pondering.

It is impossible to know if we are a simulation or not; I may simply be the only functioning cognitive process in the system, whereas everyone (and everything) else is here only to keep me believing that this is reality, when in fact, it is not.

Evidence suggests the world isnt what it seems, look up the weird and wacky world of quantum mechanics and you'll see whatever computer we're running on cannot provide good definition at nanoscale level...and the physics engine buggers up when we're not looking.

Now THAT's what I'm talking about, Dante!! Trying to instill some creative thinking...Outside the box in which we are all crammed!

You should've taken the blue pill! ;)

Art,
Does Bill819's post of information on the fact that the 'Hal/Assistant' that we use is not the first attempt, and essentially saying 'We have been here before', have any affect on you?
Or was that knowledge just dis-regarded?

Snowman has called things 'Spooky' but sometimes I don't think he looks at all the things that are truly 'Spooky' ;)

Regards,
J.

One,

Since I haven't been a regular visitor to the Zabaware web site for several months, I don't recall that particular convo by Bill819. I've known Bill for many years and I know him personally to be an intelligent, rational individual.
Perhaps he was either referring to past or previous versions of Ultra Hal or possible that Hal was preceded by various types of chatbots in the past.

I really don't know to what he was alluding. Perhaps you should simply ask him what he meant. Hmm...the direct approach. I think it might just work! ;)
