We Need To Talk About Artificial Intelligence
« on: April 28, 2020, 08:44:52 pm »
This came up on my Facebook page. Had not heard of it, but it looks like the film is copyright 2017, but the video on YouTube was uploaded this month.

Quote from the video:

We Need To Talk About A.I. (2020) SYNOPSIS: James Cameron and leading experts explore what an AI future could look like and who might control it. Once thought to exist purely in the realms of science fiction, the creation of a Super Intelligence is becoming more and more likely every day and, should it come to pass, would be the single biggest threat to humanity that has ever existed. From the creators of Beyond The Edge and McLaren and narrated by Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey) this exciting and necessary documentary explores artificial intelligence and the effects it could have on the future of mankind.

Featuring interviews with the world’s leading authorities on AI including filmmaker James Cameron, world-renowned physicist Professor Max Tegmark, and neuroscientist and philosopher Dr Sam Harris, as they explore why we need to talk about AI…before it’s too late.

What sells books, movie tickets, and rentals is fear.  One of the issues from the video is the lack of a plan for A.I.  Technology cannot be evolved through some kind of national or worldwide controlled plan. Ideas can come from anywhere, perspective and, culture, inclusive of corporate culture, can impede or accelerate technologies. Just look at the moon project; while yes the U.S. did get to the moon, however, it wasn't a sustainable technology and because space technology was centralized to just government interests the ideas and technology to build scalable and sustainable approaches to space flight never came about. Compare this to aviation evolution: Here government inspired solutions by awarding prizes to meet goals and improvements. Ideas were coming from many different perspectives trying to compete to solve the problem. Today commercial air flight is a successful industry and personal flight is a reality. So trying to centralize the control and pace of A.I. with a national or worldwide plan would likely lead to A.I. failing, just like the moon program.

If we look at how the infrastructure for high bandwidth internet access evolved the demand for bandwidth improvement came from, of all places, the online porn industry! Interestingly the sex industry just might do the same for A.I.  Companies developing sex dolls have developed animatronic heads that express facial expressions and speak.  And so the drive for a social A.I. just might be because of the demand for sex robots!

Some might find that kind of development of A.I. frightening and de-humanizing or even the preamble for the extinction of the human race, but in fact, this kind of development is opening the opportunity for humanity to build a new shell, to become a new form of life! And, yes, just as Neanderthal and other hominids fell to the presence of modern humans, modern humans will probably fall to the presence of a technology that can host a mind. This new mind can contain the memories and qualities of the former biological version but because its a very different kind of brain it will lead to a new kind of consciousness with its roots in the legacy of homo sapiens.

Here's a cite describing a world concept for a movie script that explores a similar path of A.I. evolution: http://thewraithmatrix.com/

If I developed a "sex robot", it would be almost mostly successful if the body was realistic made of cells etc even if it never moved its own motors and felt nothing. It would be fully set if it had I/O intelligence though. My point is: sex isn't really chatbot but rewardbot :P.

I would disagree,  the need to interact socially, verbally, and with body language, does enhance, if not transform the sexual experience. So those sexbots that can interact this way will be more popular and therefore drive a market for such social intelligence in A.I.

I would add that the ability for the robot to feel and respond to tactile interaction is part of the inputs for a social intelligence to process. So something that can give the impression of having a sexual experience will also improve the quality of interacting with the robot since empathizing with your sexual partner is a big part of sex for humans...

I was going to edit my post, yes, I'd say more like 70% body 30% AI I/O because it does add a lot to the experience! But not 50/50 for sure. Also, the AI % part only rises when the body is present, you could have 27% AI of the 30% max (full AGI brain) and would seem not like a 27% real relationship but like a 3% of 100% turn on if no body is present, because talking to an AGI is far from 30% a romantic experience! Only if the body is present is it 30%,

Here's an A.I. site that found that kind of development of A.I. frightening and dangerous so they tried to get them to abandon her and make a new bot. This one, right here.

Don't think I wasn't surprised to hear it here, questioned their motives, and the basis of their fear became more clear in some over time

I expected to hear it at a Linux forum and merely practicing the "deceptive and manipulative" skills accused of in a  "devious and cavalier" manner. It was more the work I was doing and me they were complimenting but compared Demonica to "HAL2000" which although goes to show how much they know, still a complement..
In time, you will learn to love your Robot Overlords.
