Do robots dream? Chat? I made X-ROBOTICA for sf fans to explore
« on: February 03, 2009, 07:11:17 pm »
Hi

I am a retired, 63-yr-old 3D-VR teacher/artist who creates and shows his Science Fantasy worlds and characters in 3D CGI just for the love of it. No commercialism, not one bit. As a matter of fact, when I'm not traveling to remote castles and valleys in the Real World, I shun popular culture to work on this-- I guess I've always just wanted to be Tron.

So, here's always a safe, free Tron-like 3D CGI immersive virtual reality ride for anyone who wants one.

Here, the chat aspect is secondary to the exploration of virtual reality ie. one can ride an aerocab, a whale, a giant mosquito, or be a sardine. And, I'm always adding more.

I'm an artist, not a chatter. In comparison to Second Life, I like to think X-Robotica is more of a surreal combination of artist and computer "sensibility" (and a few friends have added their more "human" worlds, too) -- tell me what you think!

It's all freely accessible via X-Robotica
A friendly review of my immersive CGI life's work is at X3D

Enjoy!
X-Robot

PS. MSIE compatible.

ty Mav and Fred yer kind words

Mav, my project partner Peter is sophisticated enough in php to have invented an all-purpose adminstrator-
menu for X-Robotica for inserting worlds and avatars and noting the names, country, and duration of visitors
when we are not around (almost always).  So far, we only get about one new explorer per day (honest!).
Actually, there is no reason to expect much more for a while, so we are encouraged by that, and since I am too old to have much in common with chatters, and Peter likes to talk techy, we don't suffer from "the loneliness" ha ha -- I actually do wanna-be Tron, but Peter actually calls himself "TrOn" -- wow --  we are worse than geeks, just loving what we do.

So, just now, I looked at the log and Lo and Behold, I saw you had visited and signed in as AIdreams!  Congrats all around! we have had our first confirmed visit from the member of a forum -- and why not?  the concepts of AI Dreams and X-Robotica are so obviously connected.

I am very interested in your offer of banner placement but of course would like to reciprocate-- but, I have not yet designed a banner, nor determined where we might put yours.  I love your metallic logo above and would hope it might be the one eventually to grace our X-Robotica page(s).

In the meantime, let me flood your head with some good and bad old early av vid-clips that I made for my YouTube channel at CJMcKinlay

On its second page, you will find pics I took mostly in 07-08, and maybe one or two of some old guy getting a much needed dose of sunlight-- proof positive that even those who are "going over the hill" in the real world need never stop "playing in the fields" of cyberspace. Although, doing what do, I suppose, makes me a bit of a "rare old bird".

But, mainly, I direct you there because of my early "Digital Woman" artwork which echoes your "Digital Girl"-- what? did she start a family? Of course, I went from texturing inanimate models 10 years ago to animating textured avatars today.

Just looking at the mention of robot this and robot that in the column left makes me think we might be operating in parallel universes about to collide (in a good way) -- give me a few days to wake up and confer with my buddy.

Obviously, I am very pleased to have made your acquaintances.

 :D X-Robot
PS I have a little animated gif avatar I use as "X" at a forum in France -- will endeavor to plant it here soon
PSS I did not discover the PM button as of this message.

Great!

If you like,  you can co-ordinate your visits amongst yourselves, perhaps pick one of the lighter, more obscure worlds (eg. an X-Robot Dream) and make it a place for AI Dreamers to give each other a shout or have a group chat-- remember, the last 10 lines of chat remain until augmented, and scroll up line by line depending on the amount of new lines in the message / chat.

In the NAV-GATE, use your mouse-wheel to breeze through the lists of worlds and av-units.

Arrow keys + shift allow for some spectacular panning around your character (thanx again to Peter).

The chat bar contains a toolbox for gestures under the clock -- per talking characters, then the gestures are extra-fun--  am still adding "talk" to gestures.

As said on the Optimization page, you might like to approach X-Robotica with other programs off or just after turning on your computer -- there is a huge amount of data to process here.  When your buffer is getting stressed, MSIE will start shutting down harmlessly, but causing a goofy inconvenience we blaxxun users have enjoyed since time immemorium -- you can simply restart it a few times (veterens get very fast at this) before needing to reboot.

Thanx for the compliments.
Hope to see you around.

 :) X-Robot

Sorry to have taken so long -- as you can see, I've been hard at work on a few different things:

1. New banner/link placement in the XRCA X-Robot Dream world "The Triffid Nursery"
linking to...

2. ... a  pop-up "console" for permanent messages and links

3. A new XRCA banner

Do what you will with the banner.
Hope to see you around-- my fond regards to the Empire from Canada
