Title: IMVU - Cute 3D Chat
Post by: Freddy on September 13, 2007, 02:56:05 pm
Here's another virtual-world-type affair that uses a 3D environment for chatting in.  I haven't tried it as I am currently suffering from '3D chat system overload'.  It looks pretty cute though and allows you to customise your character and make new things to use and it appears, to sell.  It has some kind of credit system (you get 1000 credits when you sign up) , but it doesn't say if that translates into real money as far as I can see.

Probably worth a look if you want some fun and don't want the hassle of Second Life draining your system resources.  It also looks more polished than SL and the graphics are slightly superior in my mind due to this polish even if they are a little more cartoony.

Take a look : http://www.imvu.com/

IMVU been frowing rapidly for the last couple of years to my knowledge, though it appears to be more of a chat enviroment akin to MSN messenger or Yahoo messenger.

Maybe in time it will grow into its own little universe?

heya,,ive been a developer on imvu for around 6 months now,and a member for around 8 months,,yes it is very popular and the way the credits work is when you sign up you get 1000 promo credits which allows you to buy from the catalogue..once these are used you need to purchase more..1000 credits equils 1.00...but there are resellers that are mostley developers that sell the credits for around 48c per 1000...but yes its a great enviournment and well woth the try...

Thanks for that Visnova and welcome to the forum.   It's good to hear the views of someone who is actually involved in what we are talking about.  To me my first impressions of IMVU are good and that's without even trying it.  I will certainly give it a try and pass on my observations when I do.  Thanks again :)
