My tip would be to always get good mid range spec components and don't ever go for the best there is, in less than 18 months a new good mid range PC would be quicker than the hi end PC you got 18 months ago.  ;)

Hey guys, I think you both have a very bad influence on me. ;)

Some months ago, because of you (and also some other SL forumers), I thought it was impossible to have a good SL experience without a very good machine. So I visited the web and my local stores, trying to find THE decent computer, for a reasonable price. During several weeks.

... when I suddenly realized I was stupid, I needed NOTHING. My SL is perfect for me, even with the recent mesh "problem". :o

Or maybe the day my antique desktop will die. But only 11 year, I see no reason. ;D

No hard feelings. :)

Actually, it's a bit worse than they're telling you.

You but the ultimate, latest, greatest, hi-end computer you can find with all those bells and whistles!

Once you get it home, unbox, set it up, turn it on, IT'S ALREADY OUTDATED!!

When you buy the newest one from the store, there's it's replacement leaving the factory on it's
way to a store near you.

It's just the way things are.

I'll never forget many years ago I was a a friend's house and asked him when he was going to let
loose some of his "hoarded" money and buy a computer.

His reply was classic, "I'll buy one once they get it right!" (he most likely STILL doesn't have one)!!
but think of the money he's saved...;)
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Oooh thank you so much Data. I'm so proud to appear in the Guinness book soon. O0

And thanks for your long explanation, Art. The true story of computers (is that what they call Moore's law?), by a wise man. I thought I was stingy, but I'm just normal. Thank you.

Buying a new computer just to go on Google, YouTube and Second Life isn't a good idea (and I hope Google doesn't plan to buy SL soon).

BTW you have a very intelligent friend. 8)

Maybe my old PC (really? 11 years, not so old...) isn't the perfect tool for exploring the very crowded places of SL (containing 40/50 mesh or non-mesh avatars and more). Ok Ok Ok. Maybe.

But according to all the posts I have read on the SL forums (and I have read a lot, and sometimes found THE "tip and trick" improving my SL), it seems that many residents owning a GPU/CPU much better than mine (I mean, everybody in SL, LOL) have a big problem with the mesh "revolution".

http://metaverse-traveller.blogspot.fr/2012/01/second-life-residents-vote-to-ban-none.html

Of course I can't say I'm happy, but no doubt (sincerely sorry, dear SLers), I must admit that

IT MAKES ME LAUGH...

(ok, I promise, last post about SL, we are on an AI forum)

Gt40, I'm still in the discovery, with Iclone5, and I just observed, the possibility of exporting a character in the format, SecondLife, by Iclone5 is another discovery that I do today. Unbelievable but true, for export. (Wrl) and other formats. The export to Second Life, is reduced, in 2D, with, toon effect. But I do not yet explored this function Iclone5. O0

(I know, I promised...)

Hi Claude, very interesting, I found this old articles:

http://forum.reallusion.com/Topic604-14-1.aspx
http://puritansguidetosecondlife.blogspot.fr/2007/07/iclone-great-new-software.html

Since 2007, many things changed in SL. Now the mesh objects (supposed to improve graphics...) >:(

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh/What_is_mesh%3F

After Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, now iClone, a perfect field of experimentation for the expert you are.

But hey, sorry Claude, create what you want, but I will not change my avatars! ;D

Gt40, technically, it seems quite difficult, transfer, character of SL must be reviewed by the blender. It is possible, but I prefer continued with my characters, without changing anything. I learned new technique for facial animation. I also program CrazyTalk for the face and on the programming, everything is programmable, and resettable with Timeline. So it is possible to do as his motions for SL there a service online, but, subscription, to program the motion in SL. No! Iclone5, not eat, not your character. ;) ::) Gloups! :2funny:
