Yes Hal is a bit unimaginative for SL  ;)

Yes Freddy, very interesting experimentation for Robert M. and Hal's fans.

But I'm not sure many residents of SL know Zabaware. ::)

Oops, too late for a Happy Birthday!!

http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2012/03/steller-sunshine-longest-sl-user.html

I checked the SL search: born on 3/13/2002. Not very smart to ask her frienship (I always refuse friendship from newbies I never saw and who just read my profile).

But at least I'm proud to be the friend of cool AIDreams-Zabaware-Haptek pioneers.

And really ashamed to be the pioneer or NOTHING...  :(

So GT40,
Did you try and beat this "Beanstalk" thing yet? A puzzle? ???

Oops Art, believe it or not, I didn't know this tale very well. Thank you for the googling action. As always I found my answers in Wikipedia, in English and French ("Jack et le haricot magique"), meanings and interpretations.

You're right. In SL, anyone can invent its own fairy tale and become a pioneer (but well-known only inside SL)... ;)

Hello everyone, you know I use an antique desktop to go in SL, with the old viewer 1.23 and low settings. I notice more and more people use their netbook for SL. Not the ideal hardware (I hear Data shouting "What?!!", lol) but if the main computer is out of order, why not? Maybe I will buy a netbook soon. Maybe...

The Intel 945 chipset is listed in the SL system requirements, so most ordinary netbooks (not all) are able to go in SL (many testimonies on SL forums). Of course the framerate is very low for a fun use but at least SL works if we NEED it.

For several years, some developers made special versions, optimized for netbooks and low-end graphics cards, based on the first viewer (now abandoned by LL). The most famous is Boy Lane, and his creations are named "Rainbow Viewers".

http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/all-new-rainbow-1-22-12

I decided to test the last version on my old PC and see if I can get some improvements. I have just few PROS / CONS to say.

PROS:

- Very similar to all the old viewers based on the official version one (like Phoenix), with the classic additional features (radar, history). Nothing new to learn.

- The framerate is really better in the Statistics Bar but not easy to exactly compare (my viewer 1.23 works very good for me). No doubt the difference is more visible on netbooks.

- Movies globally play fine and quickly (very important to me), but of course the 1.23 is the best!

CONS:

- This viewer can CRASH, sometimes after one hour, poof! No message, SL and the viewer suddenly disappear. My 1.23 NEVER crashes, and of course it's the one I use it when I know I will have an "important" SL session, where no crash is allowed. ;)

To be continued...

GT the 945 chipset is very old in computer terms these days.

What you want is a laptop with the Sandybridge chipset, either i3, i5 or i7 CPU, if it was me I would try to get at least an i5, that will run SL no problem, just make sure it has 4 GIG of RAM too.

Spend a bit more and get a much better computer  O0

You're right Data. I was speaking of poor (like me) people with netbooks, not notebooks/laptops. :)

If nothing else, my old eyes would have trouble playing SL on a 10 inch screen :o

Save up some money, beg and borrow, but not from me, I don’t have any money to lend  :)

Loool Data.  ;)  Of course, I don't plan to "play" SL with a netbook (because SL isn't a game for addicted residents, re-lol). And I'm not interested in a true laptop.

I'm just looking for something that temporarily allows me to BE in SL, if my usual PC is broken. To manage my lands, places, characters and answer IMs.

And also because netbooks are cute and handy things. 8)

Everyday I check eBay, where we can buy netbooks with 100 euros. I still lost several very interesting bids.

I'm afraid it's my fault: I guess I'm too stingy...  :(

Oops, I just lost another bid. I found what I need: the ideal netbook with its screen broken but working fine on an old CRT (a good thing: the default screen was glossy).

I proposed 75 euros in the last 10 seconds of the bid. But someone got the thing with... 94.50 euros (+ 15 for shipping and handling).

No regret, next time. Tomorrow is another day...  :)

I notice there is no eBay section on Ai Dreams. Maybe I could rename this one "This is a spam from eBay". I guess much more people here are more interested in eBay than in Second Life. Always happy to help. ;D

I apologize. This post is at the right place in Data's forum. ???
