Title: A.I. is Progressing Faster Than You Think!
Post by: Freddy on July 29, 2017, 02:38:57 am
An interesting overview of what's going on with AI.

That Google guy said something like "In 2011 before people were using neural nets". Seems odd, they've been around for years. Probably out of context.

Really cool stuff! AI is really progressing incredibly fast and I hope that it will continue this way (I fear an AI Winter soon actually!).
At the end of the video, he's talking about how AI could potentially take our jobs. I mostly agree with that idea and for example, as Self-driving cars are improving every day, I will not be surprised if AI takes the jobs of all delivery workers first. So maybe we are on the verge of a new economy which will be incredibly productive but will not need a lot of human workers.
I've made a video about AI and Automation on my YouTube Channel that might interest you!

Nice video Selim, thank you for sharing it with us :)

I think there will probably be new types of jobs that we haven't even thought of yet. Did we have many website designers 30 years ago for example. I know a few people that would be happy playing games instead of working though !

The pace of change may undo us though. Like when I first heard of Amazon and it's drones I thought it was a joke. Interesting times.

You're always welcome!  :)
That's right, it's really interesting and exciting times!
And also, I agree with the idea of new types of jobs. Although I think that it's different now because I think that the new jobs will not keep up with those that will be gone. But again, it's very hard to tell how many of new jobs will be created and of what they will consist. We will probably see that soon  ;D

I think one of the new jobs will be neural network trainer, like a constantly active cleanup crew for everything A.I. gets wrong, until they've made themselves obsolete.
Logically nobody would buy a robot that can do the work of 10 people if they still have to hire 10 people to keep the robot working, so there should be a decline in jobs as automation advances. Contrary to the industrial revolution, we're not just trading physical jobs for mental jobs any more. I think the wisest direction would be for us all to transition to part-time jobs in the next decades, and for politics to cover our doing so.

Keep in mind that while taking care of a robot still needs 10 jobs, full automation gives us 0 jobs BUT a heaven to enjoy - any work will be pure euphoria. We want it to come. It's coming. Heaven IS coming soon.

This video makes me feel happy not to be the one that does make AI real. I'm happy other guys are doing this. Chatbot toying is fine, after all. And family board games. And a nice little garden.

But we shouldn't forget. Western isn't the world (http://listverse.com/2014/01/07/10-horrifying-examples-of-modern-day-child-slavery/).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys, it's very interesting!
I also think that we can attain some kind of heaven with full automation. And honestly, I can't figure out new massive jobs, I agree with neural network trainer, that would be one (but as robots are improving fast...) but after what other jobs could appear? I really think that this time is unlike the industrial revolution era
