A more advanced thesaurus?

I am wondering if a tool exists that gives me similar word to a given word. For example if I put in "car" it would give me a ranked list of words related to car, such as: fuel, motor, benz, road, driving, dealer, pollution, engine, insurance etc..

WordNet has synonyms.

Do you need a standalone tool or an API ?

An easy, stand alone app might be: WordWeb.
It can show Nearest, Synonyms, Parts, Type of, Types, Part of, OnTopic.

And it is Free.

Mine lives on my taskbar ready at a click when / if needed.
