Whoever wrote that article doesn't seem to speak English well. "Massive compute"? Is he trying to say "massive computation" or rather "massive computers", or what?

If you're interested in Moore's Law and haven't heard of Rose's Law yet, you might be interested in that one, too:

they broke the 1,000 qubit barrier....

http://www.qubitcounter.com/
Someone explain

A qubit is basically the same as a bit (= binary digit), except instead of being in a digital computer such a bit is in a quantum computer. Just like in a digital computer, the more bits (or qubits) you have, the more information you can process. Currently there is a race to develop the largest number of qubits...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_quantum_computing

The second link you posted shows who is currently ahead in the race. There is a complication, though: that list shows the number of qubits for a *universal* quantum computer--the most desirable kind--whereas D-Wave (the company in the Rose's Law link I posted) currently creates only *annealing* quantum computers, which are less desirable since they can solve only certain types of problems (namely, optimization problems)...

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/three-types-quantum-computers/

Still, this is very exciting because D-Wave showed that after their number of qubits surpasses about 500 in number, such a quantum computer will quickly surpass the collective processing power of all other computers in existence, and soon be "faster than the universe"...

https://www.zmescience.com/research/d-wave-claims-wants-release-1000-qubit-quantum-computer-2014/

Since D-Wave computers recently surpassed 2,000 qubits, they should be "faster than the universe" by now. However, their hype failed to mention that such predictions require that all those qubits be interconnected and that the company is taking shortcuts by *not* making all the qubits interconnected. The result is that nobody, not even D-Wave, really knows how much true quantum processing power they have.
