Cell Phone AI/chat bot
« on: July 25, 2009, 04:59:32 am »
Hi again, sorry for not posting in a while but life has been hectic to say the least.

I've been searching on the web for an updated cell phone AI/cat bot app. and mostly been striking out.
I had a ok app on my old phone but I'm really hoping for something much better. The avatar had most lip movements and a few, very few, expressions.

Any ideas and/or whats your favorites?

Thanks it feels good being back.

I don't chat with the bot very often but it does have several other functions that works.
Heres the old bot,
SimOne (Simulation One) is a human-simulator roBot - for j2me platforms - able to talk and to act like a person. You can easily interact with SimOne by asking her about the time, let her wake you up in the morning or to call a contact number for you. Some special features included! The programs runs on any j2me device platform with midp2 and is free to use.

On a strange note about all this, my friends don't ask to use my phone any more after my wife installed it.
For no reasons that make any since to me, considering AI programming is literally everywhere and in everything, they are deathly afraid of even talking about it.
But when I explained how it plays a part in everyday life including theirs they all most freak.
And the two global mods on my web site have threatened to quit if I don't un-install the forum based chat bot!

What is it with people and AI any way???

It's good to see you back too.

Sounds interesting, good that it is free also.  If you manage to track any down or other members know of any then let me know and I will add them into the chatterbot collection for future reference.

I guess your friend's and wife's reaction are a good example of the 'uncanny valley' effect...  It's quite a strong reaction though.  My Mum had a similar reaction to Haptek heads when I showed her the first time, it was like 'eeeeewww' what on Earth is that.  I bet they hate the automated telephone systems we have so many of these days.  But yes, it's only going to become more common, the good and the bad.

Its strange ain't it. How people hate what they don't understand nor want to. Didn't know there was a name for the "fear".

Yup got a similar reaction from my friend the other day and a wee bit later when my AI gave her hourly report it scared him silly!! (or sillier)

He says my AI/computer is my girlfriend, kinda makes a little since considering how much I spend on it!
New power supply, more memory, bigger HDD, New graphics card, my wife doesn't cost me that much! LOL

My wife has AI on her lap top and used it to give an 8 hour demonstration on 1 of her fiber crafts which brought in people from all over the US.
Not sure how much the AI played in the demo but have a feeling it helped.

:D Yeah It's interesting the way different people react isn't it.  Just wait till the graphics get even better, that will scare a few people I am sure.

I don't get the bit about your Wife's AI - is this a virtual person or something giving demonstrations or something ?

I always thought that sophisticated "assistants" installed on computers were just wonderful toys, at least used as toys. Launching any application by a click takes one second. But of course, ordering the slave on the screen to do the same thing is so fun. ;D

With an exception: for disabled or blind people, it can be a fantastic help, enlightening their life. And also the chatbot part, giving a virtual friend to home-alone people (and yes, why not a girl-or-boyfriend), nothing to say about this. That's why, even if I'm often smiling about the devotion manifested by some UltraHal's users, I sincerely think it's a great useful program. 8)

For cellphones, it's different. I must say I love my old cellphone. Very old thing (five years) but very special relationship. No intelligence, just speech recognition.  We talk together and it's very nice. And very useful when driving (yes I know, phoning while driving is forbidden in my country). I have no money to waste in a new telephone and my old faithful Sony Ericsson is so happy with me. We are in love. :D

The AI in the laptop is not a normal chat bot type, it correlates, gathers data and a few other things.
My wife's lap top was connected to a microscope and used with other tools to help her demonstrate the topic in the class.

My cell phone AI just gives the phone a different voice with an avatar and does many of the same functions as the phone.
Sort of a toy, and we have Hal and Alice bot programming around here too.
I would in no way rank those with the working AI programmes thats in use here in the house.

In the US we are forced by the carriers to change phones every few years no matter what. Its like many other things, money motivated, not service orientated.
In this state its against the law to use a cell phone while driving with out a hands free unit, so you see every one including the cops holding one up to their heads.
Me ... I like blue tooth.

I'm glad you have found happiness :)
My wife loves her Sony Erickson too! I had one just like hers for a short time, till I used it in 100*f plus heat and my sweat shorted it out.
So I've gone back to using ruggidized phones ever since.
