From the beginning, I like to read about artificial intelligence applications. I think its application in education is more advantageous than other applications.  I came to know this book
"Artificial Intelligence in Education : Supporting Learning Through Intelligent and Socially Informed Technology" By Chee-kit Looi, Gord Mc Calla and other.
The field of Artificial Intelligence in Education has continued to broaden and now includes research and researchers from many areas of technology and social science. This study opens opportunities for the cross-fertilization of information and ideas from researchers in the many fields that make up this interdisciplinary research area, including artificial intelligence, other areas of computer science, cognitive science, education, learning sciences, educational technology, psychology, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, linguistics, and the many domain-specific areas for which Artificial Intelligence in Education systems have been designed and built.

Yes, I think you are on to something important there about AI in education. One big use in the future is AI based games that teach a subject while the student plays the game.

President Obama even recently made a call to game developers to build educational games (which will have AI more and more.)

White House: Ask What Game Developers Can Do For Your Country
By Gus Mastrapa Wired.com March 11, 2010

SAN FRANCISCO — Kumar Garg, policy analyst for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, wants the game industry to address America’s “national challenges.”

In a keynote entitled “Grand Challenges for Game Developers” delivered at the Game Developers Conference on Wednesday, Garg focused on videogames’ unique ability to engage, immerse and teach.

“We don’t allow kids to fail and iterate,” Kumar Garg said of our country’s current approach towards education. Garg believes that games have much to teach educators, and that gamemakers have many opportunities to contribute to the public interest.

I've always thought that those micro management games along with their strategy elements have always taught me a thing or two.  I've spent so much time playing games, they must have taught me something !

If anything it was gaming technology that sparked my interesting in programming, and instead of programming games I'm programming a.i.

Who would have thought it?

I always wanted to program games too but ended up being more interested in internet technology - my interest in games was definitely a pre cursor to my general interest in computing.

I've always liked the idea of a constant AI approach to learning.  Like wearing an interactive light weight laptop.  Even so, you have to fill it with effective learning methods.
