It continues when there is more information the caller wishes to pass on. It ends when they have no more information to pass on.

Depends on the person. friend or stranger or close family.
I think it is the rate of new data you are getting every minute.
If new data come once every minute, that great, but if data is come once every hour or the new data just get
repeated over and over. Or the other person say  " have run out of information and have to interact with the word
on my side for a while"  to find new data for next phone call.

If someone calls someone else, it's usually to pass on information. Once this information has been passed, the call ends.

please tell me if I I'm missing something
the conversation ends when it's goal ends
it's goals may be :
1 pass a request or command
2 ask a question : how, what where
3 have the listener agree with something
4 get new conversation topics

It all comes down to Claude E. Shannon: Founder of Information Theory, on home information can be sent at one go

I don't see the connection
the thread is about what triggers an A.I to stop talking or end a conversation
like hanging up the phone or exiting a calloverip app or walking away after talking to a friend.

like hanging up the phone or exiting a calloverip app or walking away after talking to a friend.

It has utmost connection, because conversation is heavily related to information theory, or Shannon's Entropy. What you've just said is nothing more than "abruptly" exiting a conversation, such as things that causes the talker to stop and leave for reasons.

Abruptly exiting a conversation maybe ends it, but it does not reduce the information entropy. Meaning that the conversation are just merely "paused", and can be resumed at any time using a long-distance communication, or a schedule meeting.

A conversation truly ends when the information entropy is zero, or fueled by feelings of loneliness and such for the sake of attention.

Without trying to quantify this thread, the topic was based on human conversation, not AI nor bots.

Usually a conversation will entail exchanging mutually interesting subject matter and a back and forth sharing idea flow, information, points of view, theories, likes and dislikes, etc., human perspectives.

The conversation will usually end if either or both parties become tired, have other pressing duties to attend or have exhausted the current volley of exchanges or run out of fresh ideas of topics at the moment. Lastly, might be the unfortunate case of one having upset the other which could be due to many different reasons like political views, religious views, ethnic, racial, gender or other "differences" in opinion. Most of these cases basically throw any measure of Tolerant behavior out the window, a most unfortunate event for both sides.

That should about cover it as I'm ending this conversation now. No offense intended toward any A.G.I., A.I., chatbot, android, humanoid, robot or other digital life form. O0
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

This is a mash up of Game theory and communication theory.
The adversarial game part on individual level or working as a group against others or with others.
