No people, the biggest threat is the government then the military getting a hold of anything with potential...AI, robots, drones, nanotech, etc.,....

The road to hell is paved with good intentions!

It just seems as if all these warnings and speeches and stuff are just to help advertise and better sell a future product.

No matter how dangerous they claim it can be people will still want their own when it hits the shelves. You don't see anyone dumping Facebook 'just because' their privacy is endangered.

Perhaps not but what I do know is that a LOT of people have refused to "join" many of these Social networks for that very reason.

Some others take it a bit to the extreme by going pretty much off of the grid. Sort of like Gene Hackman did in the movie, Enemy of the State, with Will Smith. Great movie if you ever get the chance. The technology mentioned in the movie was at least 10 years older than portrayed, according to the actor in the movie.

With the average person living near / in a mid to large sized city being photographed 20 - 30 times a day, often without their knowledge, it's no wonder that some want to cut the cord and go off grid! I think you can run but you can't hide...not for too long.

I personally believe that you can't have privacy today, especially if you are a public figure or targeted by someone. And unless you are one those (or a criminal) I see no reason not to stay on social networks. Of course what kids share today is too much but that is a different story.

Besides, this is a two-way thing. Since so many people share so much information, you can be your own legal spy agency - FB is like my public information hub. And I also prefer getting my news there instead of the TV, since most of the TV stations are owned by and talk in use of the government (in my country that is).

Also, 'lot' can be a relative term here. A 'lot' of people may be avoiding social networks, but a hell of a lot more are not.

I think it is a matter of how one was raised (and in what country). We were always taught that a family (or person of that family) is NOT to air their dirty laundry (bad deeds, problems, having a child out of wedlock was even frowned upon and was interracial marriage, going to jail, etc.). These and others were simply not talked about, especially to friends or others outside a very close circle or trusted people.

Yes, things were way different back in the 50's. Community, trust, service, honesty, friendship, loyalty, good deeds, character, craftsmanship, privacy (except for party lines on the telephones - another family on one phone extension), duty to your faith and your country, etc.

These things are practically gone these days. Our lives have become open books for anyone to peruse when and if they desire. Kids have very little shame and think it's cool to post naked pictures of themselves or to defile their bodies in a multitude of ways, then post that too. The idea of entertainment has gone from the extreme to the absurd...feeding the crowd who always wants more!

Yes my friend, times and things (people) have changed...and sadly not for the better (in my opinion). I'm getting older and a bit wiser but not too happier, unfortunately.

All the best,
