Apparently this company has an AI that can understand things pretty well.
As they say on their site:
800 A.I.'s can crunch your data,
Only 1 can understand it.
LUCID
https://lucid.ai/ (https://lucid.ai/)
While I realize that this is a company (of which I am not affiliated), it does have its premise and foothold in A.I. and said development. This, if true, is the golden fleece...getting A.I. to not only know things but to understand things! Words, concepts, meanings, usage, even a degree of common sense!
This could indeed be the first step of computer understanding by merging the Machine Learning and Neural Networks along with Logic, pattern matching and lots more, one could imagine where this might go. Ultimately, time will tell but it is worth keeping an eye on.

Yet they have such obvious typos on their landing page. :o

It's just Cyc with a marketing department bolted on.

Where? I don't see any.
And I thought Cyc died, no?
To me reasoning = concepts = language = meaning = recognition = identification = patterns = logic = induction = deduction = understanding = perception.
It's just recognizing an unseen 'sentence' and is given what is related to it / entails it. There's no secret commonsense or deeper meaning ventures bugs bunny tricks to find, we just have to bootstrap it now.

Interesting, I was thinking of rereading that book next, right after I finish my current novel, also by the same author.
Actually the video made an enormous amount of sense and it's a brilliant demonstration of Cyc's abilities being applied to create a very useful solution. I take your comment to mean that you haven't spent much time working in and around large corporations.

But I read last year Cyc finally died after it's 30 year run, what's up?
Instead I'm finding now this lol:

It's interesting that the "about us" section claims "200+ combined technical staff", but the only people shown are a chairman, product officer, and two finance people.
Cyc never died, they only closed their public database because people were getting the impression that that was all project Cycorp was, or so they said.

All the figures that they are quoting for the money, time, and effort that was invested in Lucid are actually what has been invested in Cyc since its inception. They don't actually mention Cyc on any of Lucid's pages that I could find, but it is front and centre in all the videos. The success stories that they list on the Lucid site also match the success stories that are described on Cycorp's own website.

Infurl,
Good catch and I've been wondering much the same as you. Their website does have a certificate but after checking, it shows no ownership.
With all of their hype, the majority of it is generalizations with no specific names, companies or examples other than some initials like J.B. from somewhere.
Notice that with this alleged technology, there is no product, demo or even a Copyright notice at the bottom of any web page. Interesting...
If it sounds too good to be true...

wait..........this is why the 2 sites are similar.....

Yes, indeed...strange bedfellows, so-to-speak.
Imagine an AI that has vast amounts of knowledge, no common sense and is, to top it off, unwieldy!! :-\ ::)

Here's a very recent discussion thread led by past and current employees of Cycorp. They talk at length about the things that they are allowed to talk about. The short version is, CYC is huge and pervasive. It is used extensively by many big players, but always in secrecy. What we can see going on from the outside is only the tip of a very big iceberg.
I'm glad I kept my copy of OpenCyc. ;)
-
Can someone please for the love of God herself show us Cyc running? Infurl? Start her up

I still have my copy as well! O0 And they call us packrats! I prefer to think of us as, "Collectors". ;)
