How much Intelligence is in the DNA?
« on: September 24, 2014, 06:18:14 pm »
Does anybody know how much intelligence is determined by our genes?
There are about 10^15 Synapses in the brain, but how many of these are already hard-coded in DNA?

Perhaps it depends on the percent of Neanderthal DNA people may have?

Some say about 50 % give or take outside circumstances (parents, environment, opportunities, etc.).

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Genetics is a very complicated field as there is so much more to it then just the dna. The genes itself have "switches" that determine how that gene is expressed. Humans have a lot of DNA and they are just now figuring how much certain characteristics are hard wired and how much is nurture.  So like anything else I think it is a combination of both.
So sue me

I think it's pretty simple: intelligence = zygote (fertilized egg cell) + DNA + input (food and experience) + time

Maybe it can be achieved other way, that is what artificial intelligence is about.

people pretty much said what i was going to say...  Its hard to say how much,  because circumstances can change just as much as people decide different things.
