Memristors
« on: February 16, 2015, 09:03:46 am »
Well, this is something I don't normally do, but... Here's a topic on Memristors.
I want to add some random vids and articles here as well.

Of what I can tell, memristors have a direct effect on the future of AI so I believe its something worth talking about on this forum..

I made a random video on youtube in which I do a fine job at mumbling through how a memristor works... I will not hold it against any one if they pass out half-way through it...

Good video Snowman, watched it all  O0

I find myself as excited as you about the possibilities and potential of the Memristor, lets hope the technology falls into the hands of a good chip manufacturer and we end up seeing a new computer architecture with all memory built on to the chip.

That would be (restraining myself) "quite large" in computer terms.

Snowman, I have a thread about Memristors over on my (not so serious) site, would you mind if I added your video to it ?

You can do whatever you feel like doing with it Data. Although, I did manage to call a transistor a memristor a couple times during the vid :P. I'm good at the confused and bewildered approach at video presentation.

Have you ever explored http://www.memristor.org/ ?
I haven't explored it completely but it looks very informative.

Thanks Snowman,  thought I better ask.

You have a neat way of making presentations, I've watch your other vids and I seem to remember them so you must be doing something right,  the bewildered approach is working  ;)

No I haven't explored http://www.memristor.org/ yet but thanks for the link, will be sure to check it out and probably add it to a post soon.

Good job, Snowman.  That was a nice introduction to electronic components.

And, thanks for the link, Data... Got anything else on introductory electronics ?

Thanks Snowman, that helped a lot, I watched it all too, the bit about the way the memristor works a bit like a variable resistor blew my mind ! Amazing stuff !

Not exactly 8pla.net, it's more computer hardware specific than introductory electronics on the site.

Yesterday, I received a comment on my memristor video (apparently) by an inventor of a memristor circuit. This is the message he left me.

What a wonderful introduction to memristors for the layman. It takes intelligence to present new ideas simply. Thank you for this video. As for the neural network applications, we have been working on that. Check us out at www.knowm.org.

If you go to his website you will find a video introduction to his theory. Its quite amazing what he's doing.
Below is the video from his channel on YouTube.

What he's making is a circuit using memristors that both mimic neurons and is optimized for Neural Net Algorithms. It is meant to be added to or perhaps replace todays pc processors.
