Narrative Intelligence
« on: October 23, 2018, 07:23:33 am »
What are the core guide lines for a pleasing story?

Goal
Conflict
Setback or Standstill or Breakthrough
Emotion
Reason
Anticipation
Choice (leaving you with a new goal)

It is often said that life is not a story. But that is the goal. Humans seek to guide life into a story shape. Following the basic story outline is hugely satisfying. It helps you achieve things, and it's interesting to read about others achieving things and making progress in their lives. Evolution has seen to it that we value progress, productivity and improvement; you know, probably for obvious reasons.
This is the basic premise of the constructive human thought pattern, it's got to be a decent way of going about it. We haven't done too bad as a species. Something's working. It could be worth trying to implement this progression with AGI.

Don't forget: Protagonist & Antagonist
My college creative writing professor said (his words)...
"A good story should be a lot like a woman's skirt,
Long enough to cover the subject but short enough to keep it interesting."

I've never forgotten his words while crafting my musings and short stories.
-------------
Life is good, filled with happiness that things are right with nature, person and the world in general.
There's always the beautiful calm before the storm (unexpected/unplanned event, danger, potential harm).
Danger/Drama that the storm is approaching.
The Storm (personal, emotional, physical, loss of material, wealth, loved one, etc.).
After the storm picking up the pieces and starting to rebuild.
Getting back to as happy a place as one is able.

These help to serve me as a loose framework from which to craft my stories.

It seems ours are pretty close in comparison and while one could get by with just the Plot, Protagonist/Antagonist, it should have a broader overall Plot to weave the tale.

It's all good. Whatever works best for the individual.

Cheers!

If you want to talk about a good narrative, Ernest Hemmingway says to write about grace under pressure. I've always liked that. Which of course is dependent on conflict, which life is ripe of. I'd say conflict, as you already listed is necessary for a good narrative.

By the way what is AGI?

Given your definition what is ASI then?

ASI - Artificial Super Intelligence: An agent that possesses intelligence far surpassing that of the brightest and most gifted human minds. An intellect that greatly exceeds the cognitive performance of humans in virtually all domains of interest.
