"Deep Attention"? I think half of the success of Deep Learning is merely that the term uses the word "deep." Even before anybody was using Deep Learning, there was Deep Blue, and my manager once told me he thought the reason one of his company's proposals won is because the name they used for their proposed software had the word "deep" in it. It's sad how shallow these humans are. A net by any other name would be as shallow.

My first impression of that article was that I was somewhat impressed, then I remembered that network has no understanding of anything whatsoever, whereupon I realized it would have no idea of cause-and-effect based on its superficial detection of patterns, which means this system is qualitatively the same as every other AI attempt. Thanks for the link though--such links do keep me up-to-date--and sorry for my ongoing pessimism.

Remember, the master network works on all sensories, sound cortex can even take over vision. They have found the magical cortex.
