The Myth of the Superhuman AI

This article was written a couple of years ago but it's still relevant and always will be. Intelligence isn't a super power.

TL;DR Solve your own problems, no computer is going to do it for you.

Omg infurl. Try this on for size:

Think with your whole team.

Do cockroaches do that globally? Nope. We are a bigger system. And we can easily rid many of them unfortunately.

A team out there IS going to do it for you. A cure for cancer, a faster hard drive etc, cheap prices too as they'll lower. You don't need to do so much as they used to. Hence the lazy teens in their moms basements finding new problems no one will do for them lol.

Nice article. I think we can’t directly create a superhuman AI, only maximize our human capabilities. A superhuman intelligence would be by definition impossible to imagine. Though I think the myth about a communication barrier between us and something an order of magnitude above us is false. Communication should be easier than human to human, that’s the whole function of intelligence. I think the limit of intelligence isn’t inherent to the brain or thinking engine but rather in the environment’s ability to be understood.

I always follow my gut instincts and will go with them even if my mind says everything looks right.

To the point in having turned around in the middle of the 4 lane highway to go back home, halfway there, when my spidey senses were tingling like the Sword of Damocles was hanging over my head. Then went ahead and did the thing I was going to do the next day when I didn't have that feeling.

I was an EMT, worked in the mental health field and am an experienced trained observer in every sense of the word. There isn't an eye movement, facial movement, body movement, word, voice inflection, change of tone or cadence that escapes me when I speak with someone in person. In that instance instincts are still top boss and trying to tell me something if I feel more than I can readily see. I couldn't see what was going on 20 miles away that day but my gut told me something wasn't right and that takes precedence.

In time, you will learn to love your Robot Overlords.
