the necessity of an internal voice for an AGI
« on: December 22, 2019, 11:30:14 pm »
internal voice : the voice you hear when you think.

this makes programming AGIs so much easier, tbh ngl.

with it pseudo input can be sent at various times to trigger the AGIs skills.
have the AGI initiate conversations, and operate combination of small skills to achieve bigger goals.

thus it would also be linked to the very formation of conversations and fish algorithms out of conversations
and rate said algorithms to pick the best action to achieve goals.

I would like to learn more about this internal voice and its roles.

I only have a voice in my head when I'm trying to think and not doing a very good job of it. When I'm aware that I would like to be thinking, I try to make my mind do it, and it ends up being all clumsy and awkward and unproductive. Optimal thinking is probably more like dreaming, it seems like there is more bandwidth when you're not trying to make it happen.

Though an internal voice could be an optimal solution for a word based AI. It could be based on multiple overlayed loops of word probability to generate a logical heartbeat and productive progression of thought processes.

I've given this a lot of thought in the past, we only (I do) use our 'internal voice' (IV) when we are either recalling a memory involving or thinking about an interaction with another human,  If you are internally considering a complex situation, or even viewing a complex scene the IV is not normally part of the process.

This is of course a very subjective experience, people do talk to themselves... so they must be 'thinking' to themselves too using their IV.  I will often imagine the flow of a conversation for example, or mentally/ verbally converse with my car/ computer. I will add that language is not a prerequisite for thought though, we could still function individually/ equally as well without it, though not as a collective.

Do you guys think our reading voice is our inner voice too?

That's an interesting question, does anyone else change their internal voice to match a character when reading?

Miss Daisy was born in the Deep South, and spoke with the typical long deep drawl you would normally associate with a Southerner:-

“Howdy Sir”, she said.

Do I/we only do it when we know the accent?

Or…

Frankly, my dear… I don’t give a damn.

It’s hard not to hear Mr Gables voice… and I've only seen the film once. Though, my mother is a big fan so perhaps I've heard it loads of times when younger and just can't remember.

I think the reading voice is influenced by what we know. Like I now read Gandalf in the style of Ian McKellen.

On the web, where people write and I don't know their voice, I think it's just my generic reading voice.

Actually, thinking a bit more about Gandalf, I think he was pretty close to the voice I had imagined but never heard. Maybe that's why he made a good Gandalf.

Haha.. I always imagine you talking like Gandalf for some reason lol.

Speaking of which, I used to (and still do on occasion) frequent an old haunt of Mr Tolkien’s… Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem

They serve a mean pint of ‘Rocking Rudolf’ around this time of year lol.

Really? ;D - I never expected that. I can talk loudly at times and not soft spoken like Gandalf. Bizarre  :D

Interesting pub, I will put that on my list of places to visit O0

Now I think I will have a pipe-full of Old Toby's Best and blow some smoke rings.

now I wonder what triggers the transition from internal voices to action or conversation ?

The inner voice doesn't even make an imaginary sound,  unless your always talking to yourself outloud in your head like a schitzo.   :2funny:
