3D Glasses
« on: October 03, 2014, 09:46:11 pm »
We were talking about this earlier. I was wondering if anyone knew of any 3D glasses (not the blue/red ones) that can be used on normal screens. I found a couple but one looks deserted and the other is in development.

Cheers :)

Freddy,

I managed to locate my "dated" pair of 3D glasses that work superbly with an older nVidia graphics demo.
Although I can't locate the literature at this moment, I do have it along with perhaps the name of manufacturer.

These are the "Shutter" 3D glasses I wrote about earlier. When one wears them looking straight ahead things
appear dark. When one tilts their head left of right then the lenses turn very clear.
This is without power being turned on. This indicates to me that the lenses are polarized.

Within the confines of a 3D program, the lenses seem to turn on and off faster than the eye can distinguish and the illusion
becomes complete. The nVidia demo actually had me grasping at an object floating and turning about 4 feet in front of me,
seeming to be hovering between me and the monitor. A most eerie, surreal effect.

The glasses also came with several CD's of various programs and games like 3D motorcross and racing, etc. It's been quite
some time since I've actually used them.

Maybe you can find some info based on the photos.

Thanks Art, those look similar to the ones I found - but the site seemed abandoned and many link are broken, so I did not want to take the risk.

I found that there is an nVidia 3D system but they require a 3D screen and a nVidia 3D card.

I think I will just wait for Oculus Rift to appear.

Not to try to compete against modern 3D glasses technology with classic 3D glasses technology.  I just want to report that I received my classic 3D glasses.  The ones I ordered from China for ninety nine cents.  They look just like the 3D glasses of 3D movies, except they have red and blue lenses.  So these classic 3D glasses are not the paper type. They may be inexpensive, but they are also sturdy and more importantly... They really, really do work over the Internet, viewing 3D images and videos designed for them.

Success!

All Original Elizabot avatar artwork using Gimp to modify single image file to 3D format.

Standard, very inexpensive, red/cyan anaglyphic 3D glasses are required.

Try Moving side to side... Elizabot will seem to follow you in the room.

Even the scaled down thumbnail image works with 3D glasses!

The 3D glasses,  I ordered from China, cost only 99¢ with free shipping.

They look like this...

Yes Freddy.

According to Ebay, hundreds have been ordered....  3D glasses, brand new, arrived in the mail in an envelope from China a few weeks later...   Free shipping.   However, for the sake of my post not being spam in any way...(although I know you know that already) I make no recommendations...

Heck, I am not making a single penny off anything.   So, just for discussion about something that is so much fun!  3D glasses for chatbots, I think is pretty cool... Wow!  There is an enormous amount of 3D content on the web... Camera images, videos, and tutorials.

I was just so amazed that classic 3D glasses actually work on the web.  I got the idea from a children's book which had paper 3D glasses.  It made me wonder if that classic 3D technology could work on the web.  In the short time I've had them, I've only tried them out on my laptop so far, but, for sure it is real 3D, with a focal point and 3D background.  According to a tutorial I watched on YouTube, to make a focal point, (the part that appears to jump off the screen), just remove the red and blue around that section of the image.

It seems to me that the way it works is that somehow, with the 3D glasses on, the red and blue colors are invisible, and the image becomes three dimensional.  The eyeballs in my example appear to move side to side, and the rounded rectangle behind Elizabot appears way in the background.  The chin, nose and mouth combined is the focal point that jumps off the screen.

It will be good to see what else you can come up with.

I found some on eBay so I will order those now.

Those glasses will work quite well with the MakeHuman program during the Analglyph viewing of the model.

I never realized 3D is so widely supported by so many applications.

With a free plugin, and an easy tutorial on using nodes...

There is support for 3D glasses in Blender too.
