the future of building
« on: March 17, 2018, 11:41:37 am »
how can you build a whole city singlehandedly bigger than new york in less than a year.

Have one robot that can build one building. (but it has a selection to pick from.)
And the trick is, you get it so the robots can build themselves.

So you start off with 1 robot.
Then you have 2 robots.
Then you have 8 robots, etc,  now this is exponential, so youll have 4 billion after 32 iterations.  And each robot is a potential building, but they can actually build another after theyve finished also, so theres a balance of how many robots you need and how much building you want.

The catch is of course how do you fuel it, and what do you use as building resources,  especially if you want everything professionally plumbed and the electricity working of course.

And after your done, you can continue on and then build the whole planet pretty quickly.

If you were to fold a piece of paper in half 42 times it would reach the moon.

So yeah... wouldn't take long to build the city.

Ranch are you just learning this ;) ?

Try switching your robot with a replicating nanobot that makes up a fog brain manipulator ;)

I just dreamt up a problem with the dream,   and a major flaw here is a 3d printer cant actually produce a *whole* 3d printer,   it can produce only the parts that are cold, the hotend which melts things, cant actually be melted to make... so... issues.

and that you cant build a building with melted stuff, you need something harder,  but the fact that something harder needs to build something hard, means they couldnt replicate as hard a version of themselves unless you figured it out.

fun! :)

Hehe, why couldn't we just live in one big comfortable robot inside? :)

Hmmm... I think the only way a robot could build replicas of it's self, is if it can manipulate matter at the molecular level.

Living organisms seem to be able to do that very efficiently and reliably already.

Sorry but one can't fold a piece of paper, regardless of size, in half more than 7 times. O0

Toilet paper doesn't count!

Seven times... that old wives tale... hehe

42 = to the moon.
51 = to the sun
81 = 127,786 light-years
90 = 130.8 million light-years
103 = 93 billion light-years, width of the observable universe.

...and that's just one sheet!!

Imagine buying a ream of that paper? How to get it home, where to store it and when you start your printer, the entire neighborhood's lights begin to dim!!  ;D
