Sometimes, we just HAVE to go off on someone...
« on: October 05, 2010, 07:30:21 am »
This email just got sent out by me a few minutes ago. I get about 4-6 of these per day, and I've just plain had enough of stupid people trying to scam folks. the original email was sent to me through the contact page of my website:

Quote
Thanks for your interest in promoting my website. You are the 419th "company" that uses a gmail, yahoo, or some other "public" email address, and I find it sad and ludicrous that you should do so. How hard is it to get a website for your "company" that actually has an email address associated with it?  This, to me, SCREAMS out a lack of professionalism. Or perhaps someone with the will to scam a fellow human being, but without the brains to carry it out.

Secondly, I can see right away that you haven't read WORD ONE of my website, because if you had, you wouldn't be offering to promote it at all. THIS IS A PERSONAL BLOG AND GALLERY SITE, you IDIOT! NOT a site for any sort of real business! NOT an online store! NOT a site that promotes anything at all, in any way, shape, form or fashion. If you're that desperate for money, stand on the freakin' street corner and sell pencils! You'll probably have more luck!

Oh, and if your name is Brett Babb, then WHY is your email address {address hidden}? Somehow I get the feeling that you're not a "scam artist", because there's no "ART" involved in your approach. Go back to school, and learn a USEFUL skill, like how to push a broom. GAWD, the stupidity!

I get a lot of those too.  It's good to vent sometimes.

Actually you were a lot more restrained than I have been in the past  :D

Something I like doing is to go to the unsubscribe page the spammers sent me and enter about 10 fake e-mail addresses, lets say the spam came from "get-money-for-free.com", I would unsubscribe

we-spam@get-money-for-free.com

spam-a-lot@get-money-for-free.com

spam-spam-and-more-spam@get-money-for-free.com

etc.

Why do that?
When you unsubscribe the e-mail gets put onto a verified e-mail list, which is why you should never unsubscribe with your real e-mail. The spammers will sell that list but probably wont check the e-mails on the list, too many.  In short the site should start getting spam from other spammers, payback time  :D

PS the spam bots are going to love this page, all the e-mails on it  ;D
And I have checked, there is no “get-money-for-free.com” so we aren’t going to up-set anyone with my post.

Funny but every time I see or hear the word SPAM, I immediately get visions of the old Monty Python bit with the SPAM...SPAM...SPAM... etc.
 ;D

In all seriousness, I feel your pain, brother!

I remember the incident which happened 2 years back. I always hunted for free software download and free e-books about various subjects and registered with them. Didn't knew that people actually record my email id and sell it as a mailing list to other people.

Just then I started receiving spam on a large scale, so much that I have to close that gmail id. :( But I never tried to email the id back like you have did coz i thought that the person who is sending mails to hundreds of IDs might not be checking their own mails  ;D :D

I switched my gmail Id then, and still i receive atleast one or two per day, but thakfully, in my spam folder. I dont know from where do they get my ID, because since that incidnt happened, i havent opened my id for any suspicious website. Do they have a brute force type of script  >:( ;) Just Wondering

Can death be sleep, when life is but a dream,
And scenes of bliss pass as a phantom by?
The transient pleasures as a vision seem,
And yet we think the greatest pain's to die.

~~John Keats(Lines from poem On Death)

@everyone:

Thanks, all. Your words have shown me that I'm not wrong to "snap" now and again. :)

@Art:
"But I don't like SPAM!" - Funny, funny skit! ;D

@Mohit:

It's hard to say. Likely, someone has come up with a "dictionary script", that makes up addresses based on gmail, or Yahoo, etc. and simply runs it to send their spam. It seems to me, though, that gmail, Yahoo, etc. would get wise to these tactics, and black-list these sorts of spammers rather quickly, while contacting the ISP of the spammer, and seeing that the spammer's account is closed down. That's what I would do, at least.

I'm just about to the point where I want to write a "spam filter" for the contact page on my website, so that these types of messages don't get through. I'm just not looking forward to it.

I also get these offerings from time to time, you know, mailing lists for everything you can think off. I've never actually responded to one, thinking that the email might be a scam itself.?

Yeah probably you are right.  I would have died of a Viagra overdose by now if I had responded to all of them.

Hehe, yeah that could mean something I didn't mean it to lol  I have never had to partake of viagra but at least I know where to go if I need some ;)

Actually I wouldn't bother, as most of these drugs are probably made from rat poison anyway  :o

They didn't do much to disguise it did they.

I've been getting PayPal ones lately - they even have my name...I think I know where they might be getting their info though.

I forward them to spoof@paypal.com and they have all been confirmed as dodgy.
