Well I guess you get what you pay for - primarily I was just trying to find something that Asus seemed to recommend using.

I thought the FSB speed would probably affect the memory speed too.  I am pretty certain now that I would like to try over clocking and see how it goes.  I guess I should just wait and see this memory come down to a better price - what's strange is last week it went down £10 and then the beginning of this week it went up £10 again !

You can't win with RAM at the moment, everywhere is expensive.

I don't mind tweaking the RAM to see what I can get out of it though, that's fine.  There are a few other brands in the manual that they recommend, I'll see what else I can find.

The reaper memory is very good, I did have some before I got the RAM I have now, but its really aimed at the AMD and SLI market, I also had some small issues with it regarding timings so for that reason I would go for the cheaper OCZ option. I say cheaper but not cheap  :P

I’ve never had a bad stick of OCZ RAM and rate it high in quality.

I had never heard of the brand, looks like they are one to add to my list then.  :)

Keeping an eye on the OCZ SSD drives price, some are scoring 6.9 in WEI.

OK...If I may interject...From what I've read of late, the WEI is NOT all it's cracked up to be so don't use it as a benchmark for your graphics testing.

I agree Art the WEI is only a rough guide and is not perfectly accurate.

The link you posted is for windows Vista WEI, I know that because on the page it says

“WEI rates a computer on a scale up to 5.9, with 5.9 being the highest.”

In Windows 7 the highest is 7.9, I believe this was done to take into account new hardware like SSD drives and faster graphics cards etc, MS have also tried to improve its accuracy in Win 7 too.

But yes it’s a guide and basically can tell you if you have a driver problem or something not quite right. Just like it did when Freddy had a very low HDD score it said to me that a driver wasn’t right. Putting in a new driver almost doubled his HDD score.

Talking about HDD scores, most modern hard drives seem to score 5.9 in Win 7 WEI, even the 10,000 rpm drives do, if you raid two 10,000 rpm drives you might get a score of around 6 or 6.1, something like that but the new SSD drives can score something like 6.9, raid two of them (in my dreams) and you will be looking at something around 7.3

So yes Freddy 6.9 is a good score.

Still worth waiting I think though.

RAM prices are nuts - that OCZ I linked to above at Amazon was £80 at the time, now it's £95 !  It's a joke.
