Solid State Drives - What is their life expectancy and should you trust them?

Give a check of this chap's take on the subject.

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

I've had an OCZ Agility 3 SSD for 5 years now, it's been flawless and fast to date.

There was quite a lot of concern from some people in the early days regarding SSD's life expectancy, it was new technology after all, people didn't know if they could trust them. As the video shows the technology has moved on and improved a number of times now.

If a 5 year old SSD is still working well then a newer model should be even better. You would have thought.

Intel seem to have made quite a large jump recently in SSD technology with their 3D XPoint.

If you look through the hype in this video, there is plenty of it but there are also some interesting facts in there.

"transistor-less technology", it sounds like we are seeing the first use of memristors in SSD's.

A very interesting post.

I've been running several Samsung Evo 840 SSD’s for the past few years and I really… really… really hammer them… they have never missed a beat; excellent bits of kit.

I've been happily using them for a few years now too. I had one go faulty, but on the whole better survival rate than the old type of HDD. There's no HDD in my rig any more, hasn't been for a long time.

Intel’s first Optane SSD for regular PCs is a small but super-fast cache:
