The thought of transferring our "mind" to a machine might seem worthwhile, but when your physical body dies, and it will, this new "you", might have your memories, but you will never realize it because you're dead. You can't live on in another body after you die.

I'm with this one. I don't know why or how, but I just know that the true consciousness within our mind can't be transferred into a machine. I do have ideas -- like link two consciousness/mind together in a way that both synchronizes together, and finally, shut off the first body. But that sounded impossible.

You know the science... never say never... we have yet to answer questions about the life phenomena.

No no when the AI comes, all imortality ways will open, and full assurance of transfer will happen - NO uploading~duplicating NONO - likely the AI will (with creatures made in weeks) open the skull and put synthetic wires along our running algorithm to put it into another substrate. Or just keep repair urself. The "I am a consciousness" is just us talking, we are a algorithm - it makes a background con. sense but NO affect us robots, else termination would be okay!

Our body is already changing, the nerves simply send signals up. You can't even touch the world, ur in your mind, the vision is you see!

But your physical body and your mind will die. All of your memories and experiences will die with you. If your memories, behaviors and emotions were transferred to an android complete with suitable brain, sensors and neurological pathways, it still would not be that same as the original "You" that died, nor would you ever reap the benefits of immortality. At best it would be a proxy continuing as you.

Then again, this is all speculative as we'll never know the outcome unless it happens to someone we personally know and with whom we can relate. Perhaps time will tell all.

I understand Art, if you make a replica of yourself, you still remain in your old body.

But the big question is: can *soul* (that dot inside us that says: I exist)  be transferred from one system (natural body) to another?

Perhaps classical AGI of the future could answer this question. And, if answered, we could get an answer to the other intriguing question: what happens to us before we are born and after we die.

I have thought about the soul in AGI. A AGI program can be uploaded and downloaded, on the fly.
But the body design must be the same. it can be copied many times. Since the program will be really big
there is a greater chance of mistakes when transmitted to another over a distance.
If a AGI has to big of an error it will collapse into a fetal position and will become AGI with a baby brain
and will have to evolve back into human level over time, A reboot.
But humans are so different from on and another. That new reincarnated souls go int auto reboot.
Maybe when we can make exact clones of are self's it may not be a problem.
But clones have a problem when a microbe has learned to bypass a clones immune system all other clone
are dissert!

And another way i look at this is if we could add parts to are body organic or computer hardware to brain
and organic body parts. Then over time The person become really big. Then, if the real body dies it will be
just like losing dead hair. Or at most a pinky finger. This trauma could be reduced even more, if are parts are
connected by wi fi or some other high speed communication.

Guys, I already got the purpose of the universe.

We are robots made of particles, which not only work by physics i.e. just a device, but ALSO are destined to go/outcome how they will.

The purpose of the universe can only be the algorithm since nothing really is tasty or makes sense.

We talk about things, but only understand that talking if know the language, and rewards make you go to things.

There's the body, algorithm, and acquired senses and actions stored and used by algorithm. The algorithm is the answer ONLY. The body always changes and can change completely, even in virtual reality. Senses and actions SAME, even algorithm. BUT the algorithm must stay going! Since body and nerve signals aren't unique/tasty but algorithm system must DO it.

From Transcript:
Basis convincer three, is that, although everything is just destiny particles, the universe has a purpose, and that, from the AI algorithm going to, and from, things, even when sitting, or only living in virtual reality as computation, a second type of existence is created and exists as long as the algorithm stays going since body algorithm and memory can change dramatically fast, that doesn't affect me, and that has a illusion of both sensing, and acting, because both motor and sensory particles are part of the robot, and a mechanism capable of survival and understanding exists. Therefore we must build the first agent, and because of all of their abilities and the described scenario I list, we will be immortal, and then inside a perfectly op er at ing heaven organism, sensing only incredibly good senses very soon.

Yep...Although the original body of us dies, it is this "cloned" version who will ultimately reap the benefits as it can then (within constraints and limits of the technology at that time), live forever! <Insert quote of Tinman from Wizard of Oz..."If I only had a brain!"). ;)

It's not the body nor the memories, it's the algorithm going - because nothing is unique/tasty or makes sense (we have rewards & "understand English").

Well Beautiful Flowers...changing your name will certainly not hide the fact that you are whom you are...after all, there's no memories nor thoughts in your brain...only Algorithms and electrical pulses that fire from time to time. Dare I say, Welcome Joint...it's a new day and a new name. (could be a place or a rolled up thing...hmmm).

Our senses and actions are stored as images and actions in the brain yes, memories.

My last comment stands without a scratch.
