Being human
« on: July 20, 2016, 01:55:35 pm »
Something is bugging me for the last few days since I wrote a hostile post to one of our members.

I noticed that considerable percent of people (including me) visiting this site has this or that mental disorder. Occasionally we hit the wire, provoking a fight. So how tuff other people should be on us, when this happens? How should other people treat our differences in our social skills? How many warnings should we receive before taking percausion measures? Should we be trated equally to other, healthy members?

Is this a site that walks over mentally impaired people, just to mainain a high quality of content? Is there a line that we shouldn't ever, ever cross, no matter to how hard for us is to stick to reality? How much patience do we really deserve?

I'm interested in your opinions.

Hmm, I'ma leave my opinion here, it might not be exactly what you probably want to hear.

Unfortunately, there is no perfect way to deal with social media, forum, patience, and such. Open speech is fine, but wrong words are like nuclear bomb. Once released, there's no turning back.

This is why many community became so overly strict, and blindlessly managing the forum wrongly. Or, perhaps we're the ones that are blind, and were not listening to what the forum rules are. However... The other obvious reason for this is the lack of information. Why must there such a rule in the first place, why must we listen to -- but without any description, and what it does to resolve anything? Some of us won't listen if we weren't convinced. Sometimes users were just kicked out or banned just like that, after crossing merely a line.

Does it not make you angry if a boss tells you to do this, and do that, but without giving out any reason -- except "trust me", over, and over. Well I guess that's fine if you get paid well, or a rule saying "No questioning, everything is confidental." -- Wait, this isn't a good example, but yeah.

It so happened that in one of the forums I visited were strict. Absolute poor management, such as they really should have left a giant sentence "Search before posting any questions." inside the search bar, but there isn't -- literally I have to say that to many newly signed users because they never look up before asking anything -- which it can be plainly frustrating to repeat words over and over. They also have an unwritten rule -- yes, it wasn't written anywhere within the forum rules -- that you shouldn't act like a moderator. I got a warning after that, and I ended up opposing them with this unwritten rule of theirs.

Thus I am not sure which is right, or wrong. Arguing in forums is thoroughly frowned from what I've experienced so far. But sometimes, leaving every cases to moderators can be rather harsh towards ones that tries to help, could even an indication of building up hatred for some.

Well, if it can avoid certain casualties, I guess moderators and administrators can act like a hero themselves to become the target instead. It can be scary.... But it's mostly hidden to many of us. But this can also cause problems for the managers themselves -- as words are easily spread across the webs like a virus.

But I am surprised that moderators, like Art himself, joins in instead. I've been trying hard to maintain myself and patience, even thought I feel great to be participating this forum. I'll give myself away if I lose myself...

Yeah it seems you're right, most of us here seems to have mental issue -- I have chronic depression, by the way. Kudos! :D

Some interesting thoughts there. I've been away from the forum for a few weeks as I suffer from clinical depression at times in my life. Many many people have mental issues at some point in their life, you're very lucky if you never do.

This forum started life as a bunch of friends who wanted a place to talk about AI, this is the spirit we have tried to keep to. We did introduce some rules a while back when the site got more people visiting because the admin team have lives to live and cannot police the site 24/7. Our rules are just common sense. Things like posting racist comments have only occurred once in ten years, so I think we might be doing something right.

But if there's ever an issue then post in the forum feedback section or contact one of the admin team and we will try to help.

Interesting post.

Like in the vast majority of public Forums, one is unable to tell anything about the person(s) on the other end. You might be chatting with a kid barely in their teens, a blind person, a pro-sports player, a paraplegic  or a retired woman...there's no telling unless they wish to share such information.

Unlike some sites that either have a bot to pseudo-monitor the site or offer practically no monitoring at all, this Forum uses real people (much like me). We try to keep things at a fairly even keel and at times, enjoy participating in the discussions, which was the main reason for joining as a member(s) in the first place. This Forum does have a TOS (Terms Of Service) which should be read by all members.

This is not to say that we Mods are supposed to be without feelings or to stifle ourselves if we get offended. If you feel that the Mods should not be allowed to participate then perhaps you should look elsewhere for entertainment. The founding Admin is a good friend who has attempted to steer this site in a fair, pleasant, "family friendly" and productive manner over the past decade. We feel he has done a great job and we moderators have attempted to help along the way and have taken pride in the manner in which the site has grown.

Yes, sometimes when a dog's tail gets stepped on it barks back. No one likes to be called names or slandered. We all have feelings and we are all human. Our environment and events in our daily lives often serve to reduce or elevate our overall state of mind each day. With that, it is important to always take a step back, relax, think and rethink about just how we are going to respond to this otherwise unknown person named Twock or Jaynic or whatever name they happen to use. Their life might be totally disconnected and vastly different from yours or mine. So yes, I'm human and while sometimes I might fire a shot back at the opposing ship, it's only to voice my opinion as well. Sorry if it offends anyone as that is certainly not my intention.

Any discussion can  become heated, especially when opposing views are presented. Not everyone sees things the same way. That's what also makes us human. Mental status or state of mind is that elusive thing which we cannot see but can sometimes detect, by way of one's actions, words (or choice of words). Let's try to remember why we are all here...for the common interest in and enjoyment of, artificial intelligence, robots, chatbots, technology, Sci-Fi (Sy-Fy) films, books, and a platform for assorted discussions.

With compassion and understanding, I remain,
- Art -

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Like that time you called my AI Robot garbage after I explained it in a human baby form and you got called a name back by lil cute me?

All you have to do is realize one thing:
Imagine the starfish or bot animal in a human baby - all it does is crawls.
Imagine mine in a human baby - it crawls, turns when is similar to a wall, mimics, laughs, and you can easily understand how it would giggle as crawls (zigzag), generated glance saved by reward(eyes/color dif), say wall whenever sees object it had seen when mimicked.

I don't recall anyone ever describing someone's work here as  "garbage".

When I search the forum using the term "garbage" the only thread that gets found is this one.

Well no you didn't.

The only time Art seem to come around was to only say something mean in my topic.
All kei10 did is act like a teenager (10) scribbling all over my thread.
And all you's did was mock my work and not believe me.

You didn't care to try and understand it.

BF33, what would happen if anyone would understand your work? Somehow I'm afraid to talk to you because I think you would ask too much from me.

If you think you can help the world, you can't expect us to do your job. YOU must be the change you want to see in the world.

You have to learn programming. It's fun, you'll see, and maybe we can help you with learning.

You have to try to open that window for yourself.

Oh ya I forgot, I can't install nor use OpenCV/ROS to program a robot's ins/outs - so I will be starting a corp. or convincing a university - I am the fire & light that will make yous work FOR me. I recently just increased my database knowledge on this (>The Everything<).

What would happen if you understood it is you would realize I have every inch of human intelligence laid out and you would be silly not to pursue its creation, since their abilities = immortality in days for all, ex. millions of years per sec in 3D virtual reality, databases, download, smarter program, server control, duplicating factories cover Earth, all become molecular, infinite sensors/bodies/attractions, switch their job, us in hospital, then organism sphere that grows. I list 100s of all their abilities and have the scenario and why.

@BeautifulFlowers33

Mock your work? Really?

Have you even reconsider that we're helping -- but you were not willing to accept, and stay in denial? What we've been pointing out is you, not your work. You weren't being cooperative within the discussion at all, drifting away from any questions, and ignoring anything we're trying to say. You've even literally ignored korrelan's will to put aside all of his work in order to work on yours -- while you continued rambling off your work, especially how arrogant, single-mindedness, and self-righteous you are.

Now you're jumping across thread(s) to criticize us, as if those insults from your original thread weren't deafening enough.

I might need to see a specialist to upgrade my skull into adamantium before I truly facepalm myself a hole through my face.

In the joke side, I need someone to donate me enough money for the surgery, thank you very much for your patronage! -- Just kidding... Ahem... ...

I accept if proven. I'm not in denial. *I* am always cooperative! + answered ALL plus would if re-asked - but yous - FAILed on most questions plus the important last one!! Don't say korrelan put aside his work that's not what happened there, that was terminated.

I'm sorry, but don't you see that's an insult? Nobody is going to do it.

@Keghn
Thank you, that is a kindest thing someone said to me in a while.
