Can A.I be funnier than humans?
« on: May 02, 2020, 07:38:29 am »
I like the odd meme here and there and just came across this article where A.I apparently does them better (funnier) than us.
For me the jury is out on this one...
Your opinions?

I think most of those were funny. I also think that for every funny one the AI generated 200 others that didn't even make sense and it ultimately required a human with a sense of humour to pick out the ones that were funny.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.

Yeh thats a valid opinion.  but if the computer is talking to you, and its fluking doing things, do you treat it as if it understood it or not?

Humans made the concept up. Of course AI will beat us at being funny. Humans find things funny or laugh because they get reward. Food makes you smile. Discoveries do too. Games do too although not as critical than the prior mentioned. And jokes seem to use distant analogies. Either way it's not about the smiles but the data collected by the agent. It discovers food or related info by analogy, =win. Nobody invented what happy means, Evolution did, so that's why food and thought (food for thought???) make you smile, it's not about the smiles, although they are communicating to others you received survival material.

Yeh you cant say a robot is funnier than humans if a human is the one that wrote the "joke model"

But who made the human?

And so what if it's funier than you, it is then, isn't it? Why harass the new boy in town just because he was made smarter than his master while being in his master's image.

This is not about religion or creation. It is about your statement that Robots/AI is funnier than humans.

AI can barely understand the context or concept of what a punchline, pun, analogy, or humorous reference is. They can certainly tell or relate a Scripted joke or pun but they do not have the ability to create humor based on an otherwise funny situation.

For now, comedy, humor, jokes are best left to humans.

well said in agreeance,  but I only have one caveat to agree,  that if the "joke model" wasnt hand written and the computer generated it, itself, then maybe the computer itself owns it, strangely.  even tho it had to have come from something else.

Yes,

Words and thoughts containing words are installed/learned/cataloged in our brains.
Words and possible combinations of them are likewise installed/learned/cataloged by some databases in some AI systems.

It's the ability to form the words together in a coherent, logical manner in order to portray a cognizant thought or idea that often proves to be the stumbling block for the AI.

OK...a few people also share that behavior but for the most part, it's for the AI to prove itself.

A chatbot telling a "scripted joke", while possibly funny, is not it's own creation.

Perhaps they'll get it together one day...but not quite now. O0

Jokes are often funny because they don't make sense. This makes jokes a tricky metric for measuring intelligence.

A.I. telling jokes is like when little kids say something silly because they don't know what they're saying.

It's also obvious that it doesn't know the meaning of what it's saying:
e.g. "That face when you don't have money" ... has an A.I. ever felt anxiety because it doesn't have money?

I disagree, in big data text you can find related phrases using translation, you really can know what it is like and what could happen using probabilities.

But Lock, the AI can't relate to the concept of not having any money or the context upon which the remark was intended.

Yep.  Its not that computer generated text isnt a joke itself,  its just it does it by accident, unless like I said - you made a "joke model" for it.  then I guess its doing it more purposefully, but it was granted this ability via programming, not its self development.

Sure, but the real question is if humans can be funny for A.I.   :)

I was about to post something but your response is way more intriguing...

Now I picture a stand up where a human is trying to make a bunch of angry looking computers laugh.
