Einstein could be wrong, shock horror...
« on: September 23, 2011, 01:13:28 pm »
Not AI but interesting...

Scientists at the world's largest physics lab think they may have proved Albert Einstein's theory of relativity wrong - by breaking the speed of light. Experts at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland believe they have clocked neutrinos travelling fast enough to shatter the central pillar of physics.

Full story at Yahoo...

Sorry it's at yahoo btw, but I haven't dug around yet.

I'm really interested in this though as ever since I did O Level Physics years back I always thought there was something fishy about the speed of light. I could never understand why they said it was the fastest speed there is.  For me, admittedly a lay man, I could not see why.  Why couldn't something go faster  ?  I guess it is all bound up in the equation which I don't fully understand but I still refused to believe it.  But I am filled with glee that I might have had a brilliant moment in my life  ^-^

Very interesting.

On the TV they said that it’s more likely to be a fault in the instruments that are measuring its speed rather than the particles travelling faster than light, but the jury is still out.

I hope he's wrong,
I don't like limits.   ;)

Still, I read that they waited several months before breaking the news, because they wanted to be certain. Apparently,  it's already been reproduced in another lab. Very promising.
Space, the final frontier...  :D

I did a faster than light experiment once...totally by accident.

My flashlight was acting up and just as it finally turned on, I threw it!!
(the light was turn on AND moving forward at a probable 50 MPH.)

If you have trouble proving that in your physics books let me know! O0
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!
