Arecibo radio telescope

I feel as though we should post an obituary for the Arecibo radio telescope but I don't want to preempt anything. At the very least I hope they are able to make it safe so it remains as a site to which science tourists can make a pilgrimage; I sure would like to see it one day.

It will be missed.

The instrument platform of the 305m telescope at Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico fell overnight. No injuries were reported. NSF is working with stakeholders to assess the situation. Our top priority is maintaining safety. NSF will release more details when they are confirmed.
