Is anything REAL?
« on: July 29, 2017, 12:42:51 pm »
How do we know what's real? How do we rationalize that which is real to us but maybe not to others? Is this the Matrix?

This is an interesting and thoughtful video on the subject.

Thank you for sharing this video.
You're right, we don't know. Maybe we are living in a simulation.. 4 months ago, I have written an Article about the Simulation Hypothesis and the Simulation Arguments (proposed by Nick Bostrom in 2003): http://selimchehimi.com/is-reality-a-simulation/

What do you think?  :)

It is no big deal if we are real or in a simulation. We have to play by the rules in this world. Ether mother nature or what
ever.

But if we are in a simulation then it can be hacked and we will have magic ...............and physics to play with.

And you already have magic and physics to play with in this world.

I think it was Arthur C. Clark who said, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”  and also, “Magic's just science that we don't understand yet.”

As far as physics, push or pull an object, now try one with wheels or on ice, or drop a pen and a book at the same time, etc. Physics - matter, motion and behavior through space and time. It's all around us...at least, in this world. On other planets, your mileage will vary.  ;)

Probably some kind of crazy perfectly conscious algorithm would "crack" reality open... Ah, sweet Matrix. What a mind job.

Cool post… deep philosophical thoughts lol. My personal opinion is…

We can’t even be sure if ‘actual reality’ exists; because we each live in our own personal version of reality; we don’t share any common reality. Your reality is a simulation running in your personal brain/ wetwear… no human has ever experienced ‘actual reality’ or ever will.

‘Reality’ in the generic term is the culmination of individual sensory experiences, a general consensus of personal observations. We think the sky is blue because several people have described to each other what the sky looks like to them, in their own version of reality.

You exist in your reality and I exist in mine. We never actually ‘see’ or ‘touch’ anything or anyone. We have no direct connection or sense of what exists outside our own personal sensory models.  We are each a closed system.

It is healthy to hear a different point of view though…

Yes, that's true, do we have proof that other people are conscious? No. There is nothing in the real world that can be proven, including the laws of physics.

Except I exist. That's solipsism.
Life is still more fun when you pretend the world exists too.

The beauty of it all is when comparing real or not real is the fact of repeatable patterns.
There is the setting, all pieces are in there place, and the the action. Then the reaction follows. In a real or
not real universe if this logic functions then the  unreal world is just as good as a real world.

When a AGI view a cat it is in printed  as a internal code that is in turned trained into a chaining NN.
So that when the internal code for cat is entered into the chaining NN a picture of cat will be out putted.
Then cat is inputted into the chaining NN and location of cat food and bag are viewed. The AGI
"focuses" on the bag and is entered into the chaining NN and location of pet sore a comes out. Then
this pet store "a" is reentered and back up pet store b comes out.
As long as things are repeatable then chaining NN will work and so will A AGI in a real world or not.

The chaining NN is key to the AGI's for learning language, all other forms of communication, and art.
A AGI has fondness for linking things together with it internal chaining NN. Also has need to
make thing simpler and and less chaotic. So linking energetic cat to static symbol. A static symbol is very
simple and has sharp edges. If A AGI decides not to link it into a chaining NN, then it just a worthless smudge
on a piece of paper and the AGI would be considered defective.

When another AGI come around it is shown the symbol. The new AGI get excited and then scratches it head
and wonders what it could NN chain the smudge too. The First AGI with the help of the 3 D simulator can see
this and then speaks out "CAT!".
