I read the thing but I have not attempted to solve it yet, however I do have a tactic in mind...

I strongly suggest you read the article and the riddle.

I used to hate those kind of puzzles and could never solve them.

I personally believe that such puzzles - even the simplest ones from elementary school, help open your mind and teach you new ways to look at problems (mathematical or not).

It is also definitely a test of patience - I refuse to believe one cannot solve a puzzle if he invests an (extensive) period of time in solving it.

A process of mapping and elimination. I could do it on a piece of paper, but my brain gets plenty of exercise like this already when programming.

Of course, you could always "brute force" it and try all 5 answers instead of linking everything together as one huge net of connections.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.

You can buy puzzle books with lots of these types of problems ... You just need to know how to write it out the do the known knowledge which leads to the implied knowledge
To get to the answer

instead of solving puzzles to help you solve problems, why dont you just solve your problem, and be done with all this useless brain use, thats wasting your life away.
