OT: Unusual salads?

I have to make a "Salad" for the multifamily meal tomorrow, but I refuse to bring a typical salad.

Anyone have any unusual favorites?

Besides the Fruit Loop and Cap't Crunch salad I once saw.

Depends on what one considers "unusual". Maybe make a "chicken" salad but instead of chicken, use Tofu? It's nutritious and gives some texture to the salad. marinate the Tofu overnight in some type of dressing so it absorbs some flavor maybe.

Other than that, I have no idea. The salads I eat tend to be 'normal' LOL!

My wife reminds me that I can't do anything too unusual, because every other person has "diets" that they won't break for Thanksgiving. No meat, no wheat, no peanut, no oil, no spices, no this no that...

Maybe an air and water salad?

Breatharian diet anyone?

OK...

In an effort to cater to everyone's "special" likes and dislikes AND to do something
a bit from the "norm", make your salad similar to a buffet.
One bowl with lettuce, a dish with chopped onions, tomatoes, black olives, ham
turkey, cheese, etc. and a selection of various dressings.

This should be acceptable, a topic of conversation and help to earmark you as a person
who doesn't give in to "normal", however the word is defined!! It's a win, win situation.

Glad to help!! :afro

Heh, great minds think alike, Art.

That is exactly what I settled on, a selection of items which may or may not be combined into a salad...

It feels like my "special" holiday greeting...

"Happy celebratory event of food security and familial harmony which may or may not be centered around a feeling of gratitude to no particular organization, nation or ideology, or any mythical or actual deity or deity-like person or thing."

So inoffensive it's almost offensive.

I think I'd have everyone seated, offer a choice of desserts followed by the main course, appetizers, glass of wine or other choice beverage and finally some hors d'oeuvres. Thank them for coming, hand them their coats and tell them next year it's at their house! Done!

That should really give them something to talk about!!

(actually many years ago, I decided to treat my daughter to lunch at a nice Italian restaurant. We were escorted to a table and seated. Within a minute or so a waitress - not the one who seated us - came to our table - obviously having a rather hectic time and looked at us as she asked, "Will you be having dessert?", thinking that we had already eaten. My daughter and I looked at her then at each other and all restraint thrown aside, began laughing! The waitress acted puzzled at our outburst until I explained to her that we had just been seated for lunch. Her embarassment was soon replaced with mild laughter at her faux pas. Amy and I thought for a bit and she said yea, let's start with dessert then the main course followed by an appetizer! Laughter was bountiful and it has remained an engrained topic of humor between us to this day!) True story!
