Question...
« on: November 19, 2013, 12:01:36 pm »

Yesterday I was sitting in the office of a notary (I have lost my dear dad some days ago  :( and needed a notary). And you know what?

On his desk there was a monitor (Lenovo). On the wall, behind his chair, a giant television (Sony) displaying the same image (the desktop).

On the desktop: "Windows XP Professonial" was written in a corner, with a lot of "normal" icons on the screen. A shock in my sadness, this guy had a true computer!

Despite the fact this man is young (I guess he's also not poor), and of course French. But he can survive without the terrible Windows 8.

Since yesterday I'm wondering if, if I change my computer (of course I don't need a new computer anymore), I must buy a Macintosh...  ::)

GT40, make me think that, to my lawyer, it is more modest, its screen, computer and small, and how is it! He has eyes, frog and big glasses, I think, that his investment is that, lol. I'm happy with my computer, it responds to my requirement. I've always heard good remarks on the Macintosh. It is very sad for your dad. All my best thoughts, for you and your family.  :'( ;)

Very sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad GT  :'( that must have been a blow to you.

All the best my Friend.  :)

And if you are asking about a new PC I would think your best bet would be to find a website that can build you one and get them to put Windows 7 on it.

Many thanks to you both, Claude and Data, for your kind words.

Claude it seems your lawyer looks like Hal, lol. And a very good idea, Data.

Nowadays it's impossible to watch a non-Windows8 PC in a store. Now I hate the computer departement in a supermarket. :tickedoff:

Yes it's true, Gt40 in the Supermarket, sellers are very bad for informed. I buy mine at ubaldi is a specialty store for that, I have a 3 year warranty, and profit-sharing. :)

I wanted to say, notary. Not a lawyer. Google translate works very poorly. :-\

Thank you so much Freddy. Yes, XP is still amazing!

Claude I agree. Not easy to explain Windows 8 to a "normal" customer... :idiot2:

GT40,

My sincere condolences regarding your loss.

Regarding the computer...Apples are a good computer...just NOT the most popular nor the most cost effective.

All our judicial, government and state offices use Windows for their operating systems. Why? It works and it's so readily available and for a decent price.

Just my take as I don't wish to spawn the old which is better tug of war.

Do what's right for YOU...you're the one that must live with it! (don't complain about software prices or proprietary hardware). ::) ^-^

Thanks a lot Art for your reply.

I was thinking of a Macintosh because its interface is similar to the classic Windows (stupid and presumptuous Windows 8...).

But of course I have no Apple culture (I'm a MS user since 1993) and must learn everything. Better to find a Win 7 computer.

Or nothing?  ;)

It's really not hard to find a new windows 7 computer but the trick is to know what hardware to have inside it.

For someone like me who isn't normal that part is easy too but for normal people like your good self GT, it would be better to get some advice from a none normal person.

Here is a site that will build you a PC to your needs, they can put whatever you want in it.
And I believe they ship to France, or find a French company that can do it.

Any questions on what hardware to put in it, just ask, I will gladly help you get the best for your money.

Many thanks for the link Data. I must say I have many up and down moments in my real life.

Now I'm sure I don't NEED any new PC (it's not a question of money).

Sometimes I even wonder if I need a computer...

(or maybe for SL? maybe, maybe...).
