Imagining the 10th Dimension
« on: April 06, 2015, 07:30:07 pm »
Before you turn around, it is worth noting that this video is no bogus and even if highly theoretical, proves to be an amazing brain exercise and imagination booster. The narrator discusses and teaches us how to imagine the next generation - what criteria a system (or union of systems) must fulfill in order to become part of a larger dimension... Among other things.

So, without further ado I present you with The 10th Dimension...

Amazing.

Yet, I can't resist the feeling that a life is somehow connected to these dimensions. I mean would dimensions exist without observer that can't see them?

There is another interesting question: how are we, the life in 4 dimensions, connected to the life in other dimensions? Are we the same living organism that exists in some line in fifth dimension and are our thoughts connected?

And hey, in some other dimension than our, AGI already exists! :):) I wish I have some special telescope to peek there and get those informations :)

From a technical point of view, we are 4 dimensional entities - since we can only travel through only 4 dimensions. Your current position (or 'dimensional state') can be described by 10 coordinates, except that only 4 of those are variable (the only ones you can change), whereas the other 6 are constant to you. Out of those 4 coordinates, we can only manipulate (so far) with 3 - that means that the 4th one is variable to us but it is also predictable - you have never went to the future or past. Yes we do constantly travel to the future but at a constant 'velocity' and null acceleration.

And hey, in some other dimension than our, AGI already exists! :) :) I wish I have some special telescope to peek there and get those informations :)

We may indeed one day find a way to create dimensional rifts - if we do, this includes travelling to alternate realities and travelling through time in our own dimension. I say we are about 1.5 to 2 millenia away from this technology.

But the science that is to make the largest contribution to this field is not physics or math - yet philosophy... The key lays at the mind's creek - if you think the right way, you will solve the problem. Yes, we are going to create these 'rifts' through physics and we are going to explain everything with math but those do not show us the way.

Interesting to also note that the author has a book to help you understand each dimension. Who would have thought of that?
While some of these dimensions made a bit of sense, his conjecture beyond 5 & 6 was simply like throwing another fork of manure on an already growing pile!

Then again, that's just my take.

Yeah, I thought so as well but it still makes sense - both the 1st and 2nd (x and xy) dimensions are basically the same - spatial, normal-matter dimensions which you can travel through in basically the same way. The author did something similar with dimensions 5 and 6 or 6 and 7 (not sure, lazy to re-watch).

Let's check dimensions with math:

1. incrementing and decrementing from zero
2. + and - incorporate x times of 1. dimension
3. * and / incorporate x times of 2. dimension
4. to the power and root from incorporate x times of 3. dimension
5. imagine the next ones... insanely big and insanely small numbers come from these

And we could go to infinity with this artificial theory of math.

The guy from video proposes that there are dimensions not visible to us, dimensions beyond 4th. So why we are seeing only 4 dimensions? A cruel joke of Mother Nature? Or necessity for our thrive? Or maybe that's it, only 4 and done? Otherwise where are beings from 3, 2 and only 1 dimension? And how do they look like in 5th, 6th and so on? Makes me think that what we see is all what we have. And like with math imaginary numbers (remember square root of -1?), we could calculate some things in our dimensions by using imaginary higher dimensions after which these imaginary notions reduce to zero.

And consider this: in our first life we lived the first dimension. After death we were reborn to live second. After that third and now we live fourth? I guess too much coffee for me :)

I'm not taking sides here in any manner so keep that in mind.

I read an article this week where a rather learned professor of philosophy posed the question / statement.

"What were you? What do you recall the very second before you were born?" - Most answered, "Nothing"
"Right", he said.

Then what do you think you will recall or see the very second of your death? Answer - "Nothing"

Correct...Nothing at all. Like before, you will simply cease to exist...you will no longer be.

One thing for sure, there's only one way that we'll ever find out, but I'm sure most are in no hurry to prove it and then, who would we prove it to? Go figure...

I was watching a TV program recently all about infinity, it was an eye opener for me.

I'm not going to pretend I fully understood it all but I got the basic idea.

If infinity exists (It seems that it might because it works when mathematician use it in their theories)  Then just about anything is possible including infinite dimensions.

To my tiny mind it seems that infinite is more likely than 10.

Good topic  O0

I didn't fully understood myself too why is there only 10 dimensions. It seems to me that changing any constant like gravity in the Universe requires a new dimension.

I'm wondering how all this infinity fits inside what I thought they felt was a finite universe - ie it expands/contracts. But then what's outside it.

Hmm brain overload  :wait:

My favourite thought about things massive and things very small is it's a bit like a Mandelbrot set. The closer you get the more detail you see. When you zoom out again you see more detail exposed.

Kind of like the ship with the front that fell off, spilling tons of crude oil.
It was towed outside the environment.

Outside the environment where it's safe and there's nothing else out there...

Remember the sketch? Funny stuff...

So if you have a limit then there can be no infinity? If scientists / astronomers say their telescopes have seen the edge of the expanding universe, then where exactly is the universe expanding INTO? The environment? heh... :idiot2: :-\

Like in that Pacman game, what goes through the left, turns up on the right and other ways around?

Not sure! Perhaps a "worm hole" type of scenario?

The best we have so far "the big bang theory" says that before the event there was nothing, no time, no space, absolutely nothing.

But physics says you can't make something from nothing.

The event must have created our physics and the reality we experience in this universe.

It could well be possible that other universes can be created from nothing.

Or the big bang theory is wrong.

Or someone is playing tricks with us  :D

Never stop questioning, sometimes we think we know the answer only to be proved wrong late on, we are all children of the universe.
