Driving force behind some technologies.
« on: February 17, 2016, 07:10:32 am »
I like to let my mind wander once in a while. Not often as it likes to take me on flights of fancy loll. But I was thinking about our drive to search for intelligence outside of our planet. That sorta led to robots and AI. It made me wonder if loneliness is what drives us to create something or search out something that is not human. A need to know that I am not the only one out there. That we are not alone in this vast universe. A universe so big that we can not possibly completely grasp its true size. Anyway it was just a thought.
So sue me

Yep. That sort of seems to be the underlying theme for a lot of those Sci-Fi Space stories as well as those robot / android creation stories. A companion human...something better or at least equal to ourselves.

PS- Don't let your mind wander too often...it might not return! :2funny:

On a somewhat serious note, I think it would be rather close minded of me to believe that we, on this planet, represent the total source of intelligent life (or not so intelligent life) in the entire universe. Of course, being able to substantiate or vaguely prove that premise may very well, never come to fruition, and that's OK too.

Perhaps it's the stuff that little dreams are made of. The wandering...the unreeling of the endless string that holds us to our imagination...that's what's important. Sometimes these imaginings help lay the foundation of tomorrow's exploration...
here...or out there.

We are that driving force.

For me it's not loneliness, more curiosity. Actually I find it a bit scary but maybe I grew up with too much Sci-Fi.

I'm starting to go with the theory that there is a greater chance that there are other species out there, than there is that we on this planet are here alone.
