Dragon version 10 review
« on: August 25, 2008, 09:44:48 pm »
I have just installed Dragon version 10 into this computer and after training Dragon for a short amount of time and having Dragon read about 10 text documents I am dictating into this window.  One of the main reasons I have purchased this version of Dragon was because it is available with the Bluetooth headset.  In the past I had been using Dragon using a headset with the microphone plugged into a specially built audio filter for an increased signal-to-noise ratio which could increase the signal-to-noise ratio by approximately eight DB.  I had spent a little bit of time trying to adapt the Bluetooth headset to be capable of using the audio filter without success so far, at this time the Bluetooth headset has a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 23 DB.  Although the signal-to-noise ratio is not as high as I had been able to achieve in the past I feel that the comfort of the Bluetooth headset is definitely worthwhile and Bluetooth allows Dragon to achieve a very high recognition accuracy.  The version of Vista which I am now using includes speech recognition which I had tried using with the Bluetooth headset, Dragon far surpasses the Microsoft speech recognition program in both recognition accuracy and ease of use.
In the past I had used Dragon version 9 (later updated to version 9.5) with the audio filter and been able to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio of 27 DB, this resulted in a total of four words being misrecognize in a document containing 1000 words.  I had tried using several different microphones and was unable to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio higher than 19 DB, using the audio filter I was able to increase this by eight DB.

How long did that take to dictate, and how many errors were there?

I notice the lack of punctionation, I do wish they could catagorize the siliences properly :/
