Lemons into lemonade?
« on: August 13, 2020, 05:40:01 am »
Could VR be used to simulate environments like classrooms, concerts and movie theaters? So, for example, the concert would be brought to you, and you would be brought to the concert along with everyone else. On top of that, the awesomeness of the venue would be more constrained by imagination than by budget.

The problem with VR currently is it's still using the very compromised visual scope of 2D. Where film or I should say Hollywood moved to 70mm to get more panoramic experiences, then moved to even bigger formats of IMAX, that perspective is still not in VR. For example; the image below is but a fragment of what I was able to experience. The image is of the mountains of Mammoth California. I drove their last weekend with my dogs. The spot is off the map, you can't get there with a car and it's even off the trails, where to get to the off-trail spot you have to take the path that says it's dead-end, which it's not!  You then have to drive your 4 wheel drive (mine is a Hummer H2 with 36" tires) up a 45 degree sand bank to then drive into the forest where you bob and weave through trees, there are no trials. But the view was worth it.  So how we see is a very immersive type of experience where the peripheral vision is hard to duplicate with VR.

Here's an interesting application of Augmented Reality being used in Motorcycle helmets:
