Let's see some bot screenshots (if that's OK with Admin)
« on: January 22, 2020, 11:00:22 am »
I'm not talking about wallpapers shows you can see in any Windows or Linux screenshot forum. One where it shows you talking to or working on your bot, or what have you. Descriptions of the computer, OS and programs shown in use a plus. I thought I saw some shots of what looked like Korrelan using parallel computing but no shots of him at work.

This is an older shot of my Thinkpad W520 running FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p7 with Fluxbox as a Window Manager, using Firefox to talk to Demonica through her Personality Forge interface. Other programs shown are Gkrellm for system stats, urxvt as a terminals and XMMS for tunage through headphones.

I made the wallpaper and that's Beastie, our FreeBSD mascot. The menu you see is the Fluxbox menu I access most general desktop programs from. Others ran through the terminal from the usr or root account.

Uploading a fullscreen image didn't turn out like I thought so will link to it from my site. That way it doesn't take up forum diskspace either.

Some really really old websites.

https://infurl.net/

It's funny but the more time I spend actually programming and accomplishing stuff, the less time I have to show it off online. It's my hope that by the time I grow too old and enfeebled to make further progress I will a) have something worth publishing and b) still have the wits to present it coherently.

I hope one of the arcade machines obscured is the original Space Invaders... or at least Defenders.

I love that game, the first version i saw was an archade cabinet in a pub, with monochrome monitor. It had coloured gel stripes laid over the monitor to colour the rows of Invaders... Nostalgia.

If you like the old games like Defender and Space Invaders, you should look at a fre program called MAME. It's an arcade emulator and can play all the old classics. My favourite is Pacman.

I played full screen space invaders on lunch breaks all through school, after reading "Only You Can Save Mankind" the Pratchett novel in the Johnny Maxwell trilogy. It was basically like Stranger Things for the nineties, except you had Space Invaders in place of the upside down. First I did it for the incredulous reactions, but I didn't get bored of the game, having just read a whole book about it, so it stuck and became my thing. Later we'd have competitions and also team up with one person shooting and the other maneuvering. Good times.

Cool!
Many, many cycles ago, back when there weren't very many "home computers" around, a friend of mine programmed an entire Space Invaders work- alike game in just under 4k!! That's correct people...not 4 MB but 4k (4028 bytes or memory) and it ran perfectly!
Back in the days when computer memory was at a premium.
We would often strip spaces from our code in order to save memory. Now we talk of GB like it's nothing at all. Of course...it's called change... O0

I once wrote a graphics program that featured a space shuttle taking off straight up and landing at a 30-degree angle, all in just two lines of code. It was for a magazine submission. At first, they did one-liners then two-liners. That was a lot of fun back in the day. Of course, we had 300 & 1200 baud modems as 2400 baud ones were just coming out and most home computers had a whopping 16k of memory! Ahh yesss...

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Yes, the quality and efficiency of code back then was staggering.

I have a copy of the original Pacman ROM and it's about 4Kb. The entire game is 4Kb!
By contrast, this screenshot I took of the game is 64Kb?!!
