Elvis Presley, his resurrection via hologram

Elvis Presley will be brought to the stage in a hologram image by Digital production company, who previously stunned Coachella crowd with its Tupac Shakur resurrection. They will create the virtual King of Rock 'n' Roll for a range of entertainment projects including live shows and appearances for TV and movie.

The project "will help continue the growth of Elvis' rich legacy all over the world," said Elvis Presley Enterprises President and CEO, Jack Soden. "This is a new and exciting way to bring the magic and music of Elvis Presley to life. His lifelong fans will be thrilled all over again and new audiences will discover the electric experience of Elvis the performer."

Digital Domain Media Group Chairman and CEO, John Textor, shared the same excitement as he added in a statement, "Elvis is the most iconic, most recognized performer on the planet, and we are thrilled to have been chosen to bring new performances and original shows where fans can have their own, new experiences of Elvis."

In an interview with LA Times, Digital Domain's chief creative officer Ed Ulbrich dished on their plan for the virtual incarnation. "We are looking to develop several versions of Elvis," he spilled. "We are creating an original and exclusive brand new performances by Elvis Presley that no one has ever seen before."

Digital Domain was founded by "Avatar" flimmaker James Cameron in 1993. They created "synthetic human beings" for such movies as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Tron: Legacy" and "X-Men: First Class". Their work in the Brad Pitt-starring movie was awarded an Oscar.



As holography – the study of holograms & holographic projection – improves, the number of companies offering 3D holographic services increases almost weekly.

What are the potential uses of 3D holographic technology? Holograms are being used in advertising, buisness presentations, entertainment, even now in telepresence video conferencing.

Holographic technology has now reached the point where life-size holograms can be projected at a reasonable cost.  The creation of 360 degree holograms is also being offered by an increasing number of holographic projection services.

I assume this is similar to how they do the Hatsune Miku shows in Japan. I would love to see something like that for myself, as the clips I have seen on Youtube don't really do the 3D aspect of it justice.

Squarebear, it's amazing. It is true that this technology has no effect in a video, youtube, I think the effect is much more impressive on a scene, it's incredible! I would like to see it more closely.

Good find, Claude! Although it's not a hologram it does bring the ability of telepresence closer to us!!

This clip is an old one I saw about 6 years ago but the technology hasn't changed much. Sir Richard
did make a classic "Star Trekian" appearance of being "Beamed down and later back up".

Art, yes, the experience of this technique are, for some, years. But technicians, working on the project to expand the capacity. After reading, themes, I've read, it would be fairly expensive. But it would be expanded, to the application. We still need some time to see perfectionism, but they are very strong, it's a good job.
