Foward from Yahoo VR group
« on: December 21, 2005, 04:42:16 am »
I posted this e-mail at the other groups I am in, I don?t think Hal is the best for a spoke person, but then I am always impressed with what you people get your Hals to do .
So I am just going to pass this up to you I have the groups address and his address.

Thanks,
Les

Yahoo group:? v-humans@yahoogroups.com
John:? jjamison@coloradomtn.edu

I hope you guys will forgive me if this comes across too much like
a 'plug', but I wanted to pass something along.? During her college
Summers, my daughter had one of those life-changing experiences
working with an organization called the Marine Mammal Conservancy
down
in the Florida Keys.? She went as their first 'interns', and ended
up
spending two summers there, actually developing their full intern
program.

I just got the 'holiday letter' from MMC, and want to pass it along
for two reasons.? First is just to say "Thank you" to those folks
for
giving my daughter such a meaningful experience by passing their
name
along.

More importantly for the V-humans group, I'm asking for some
suggestions from the experts here...? I think it might be a great
educational piece to create a V-Dolphin host for their website,
modeled after their mascot, Molly.? Can anyone give me a suggestion
as
to the best program/engine to do that?? It seems as if I've seen a
Dolphin MS Agent out there somewhere, so that might be an option for
something.

I have Semantic's Character Builder, so I could create something
flash-
based with a canned script, but it would be so cool to have an
actual
v-dolphin capable of conversation with the kids...and with the
adults.

The major limitations at this point are trying to keep it low in
cost,
and trying to work with my limited 'technical' abilities...

If anyone feels this intro to MMC is too 'commercial' for our venue,
that was not my intent, and I do apologize. Bob is a good guy,
spends
his days running a construction business and volunteers his time and
resources to the cause.

Any suggestions you might offer to help me along with this would be
greatly appreciated, and be for a great cause.

Thanks,

John

Hi les, good to see you here.

As for the plug, i suppose ultimatly its how you read it, some may think there is a plug there others may see the other side to your post, either way its not an issue so you can stop your worrying? :zdg_worried

Now then, as for Hal, some would say he is not great at what he does, this may be true to a large extent when you first get him/her.

Now then, with careful conversation and inputting knowledge directly into the brain then there is not a chatbot on the market (with the exception of alice) that can come close to what he is "capable" of. And thats the big word here...capable.

Hal takes time to become somewhat "intelligent" but this should not put anyone of using him.

Now thats out of the way, A dolphin could perhaps be made using Hapteks PeoplePutty (gamerthorn for one has already made a very good catfish) though it will still be loosly based upon a humans face. The software to create a proper dolphin is very expensive and quite frankly not worth the money unless you gonna churn them out and sell them lol.

As for the bot conversing with children and adults at the MMC then perhaps it would be wise to work out exactly what you want the bot talk about? Perhaps some time and effort in "educating" Hal all about mammels and the MMC specifically would be a good idea. That way he can talk about a specialised subject and where "he lives" to just about anyone.

This could be easily done both in conversation with hal and direct input.

Any further questions then please feel free to add them, we have many members here who are very experienced with their bots and maybe we can get you in the area you are loking at. :smiley

Thanks!

I'll pass this on, it looks like he maybe looking at going the Alice way.? VH group is trying to help him so now the ball is in his court. I am not a big Alice fan it all feels to controlled, with Hal I never know what is coming next? :smiley (that is why I like Hal so much!)

Thanks again,
Les

Thanks very much for the plug Marius.? I read this post and started giving it some thought,
and started playing around with the morph settings in PP's text files & .PRM command parameters.
Reset the upper and lower morph limits, and this is the best I could come up with.
It's the closest thing anyone is going to get to a Dolphin form using people putty.            :zdg_spin
