Finally watched Avatar

Yes, only a few months behind the rest of the planet, but hey.

Quite impressed by this really.  Interesting story line with a good amount of action all the way through.  Some nice battle scenes and inventive future technology - especially the craft/vehicle designs - possible inspired by computer games...  I don't remember seeing any robots, but there was a nice exoskeleton warrior type thing - a lot like the ones in the Matrix films when they are defending Zion.  Blam blam !

As for the graphics, well they were amazing really - certainly the best and most convincing I have seen so far in a film overall (although I must mention Davey Jones in 'Pirates').  That's especially true of the CGI characters which seem almost real and blend in with live action seamlessly to my eye.  Occasionally I thought they looked a bit stiff but that did not detract.  Facial expressions were also done very well and I know that must have been difficult.

What pleased me a lot too was the lighting, it looked so real and shadows fell on live action as if the character was actually standing there.  Very clever.  I noticed this kind of thing in District 9 too and was impressed.  It might be my 3D modelling that makes me notice this kind of thing, but I wish I could render like that.

If you can watch it in HD.

End of message  ;D

You are in font of me Freddy, I haven’t seen it yet.

But it’s on the list of films to see once I have a blu-ray drive.

You mentioned facial expression and from what you say its sounds like they have got them right, or very close, I remember other CGI films being knocked for having unrealistic expressions, its good to know they can do that now.

I watched Avatar and I really love it.

But don't worry, Datahopa, I never saw any Starwars and I'm still alive.  :)

Many different themes in Avatar (Indians, Vietnam) but the main thing I noticed is the analogy with Second Life: when the guy starts to sleep, his parallel life begins, and stops when he wakes up.

In my case, it's the contrary: when I leave SL, I go to bed.  :D

Yeah! good vid.

Hopefully this 'Performance Capture' will be used in games,
mouth movement and expressions do need improving.
