It is our duty...
« on: May 17, 2008, 05:42:04 pm »
Nice to see you all again,

Sorry for the lack of work on my part, but i've been made admin on chatbothub (now aihub.org)

Now, some of you may be aware that Generation5 has been under heavy spam attack. I'm delegating the task of all my bots to copy the content from Generation5. I ask that you do the same.

AboutAI, the biggest and quite possibly the best AI site of it's time, has lost it's creator (death or boredem, the cause of either is unknown) I shall be asking all of you to help me keep AboutAI's content, there's an aweful lot of articles, programs and links that would take years to regain otherwise.

Next the AIHub has seen fit to start an in-house news service which will feature news regarding interesting projects, items unfit for the lay-person, and items that affect the community. This has been started because I feel there are many, many talented developers out there, and should increase their fame.

I also have a few extremely large (900 GB) hardrives laying about, if anyone wants to store their programs, or just wants to make sure a bot will stay with us, then do send it to me.
IF the file is large, then arrange for it to be put on disk, and I will give out my details when PM'ed.

You keeping aboutAI running or do you need us to host it for you...no problem for us to add a new link up at the top.

If your hosting then let us know its new home/url etc and we shall add it to the links page for you :)

Glad to see you around again.

Marius

Heh, I was thinking more of going through what works, and putting it up on site.
I imagine it's not got very long until it's gone.

I had a look over at AboutAI and I agree that there are a lot of really interesting article there, so many in fact that I am green with envy.  But what's the score here - has the site been abandoned or what ?   Can we feel safe in displaying articles here which may be under copyright or whatever.  It would be nice to rescue it if thats the case, I just need a bit more info before I start doing something I am unsure of.

Also yes, I always admired Generation 5, it's just such a nice site.  Is there a webmaster over there fighting off the attacks or what?

I've attempted to contact the webmaster of both Generation 5 and the webmaster of AboutAI.

Neither have replied.

I've enquired with a few people who make the Law their business; they say it's fine to salvage the articles as long as we put up a disclaimer as to where we got them from, and are willing to take them down should we get the proper authorization.

I was quite taken with Generation5's MARS program...

Ok well if you want to salvage anything to post here go ahead.  I can post them just like our present articles.  At some point I was planning to re-work everything that isn't the forum into one main site, which I think would make displaying articles better.  My aim is to revert a lot of the content to static html pages as I am finding the present shared server doesn't cope wll enough with dynamic (ie database driven) content.  They really need to sort their SQL servers out, but for the most part it is ok.
