Came across this in the news feed on the front page :

Toshiba has launched what it claims are the first 3D television sets that do not require special glasses.

The two sets are able to create 3D effects in real time from standard film and television pictures.

The televisions use a special lenticular sheet to create an array of nine overlapping images.

A viewer sees different images with each eye, creating the illusion of a 3D picture.

So maybe it's best to wait before jumping on the 3D bandwagon.  I have to admit I never thought 3D TVs would take off, but it looks like I was wrong.

Now we need a nice AI to hook up to our TV and we have 3D avatars

It’s a shame you have to sit virtually in font of the screen to see the effect, makes me think this kind of technology would actually be better served on PC monitors for games.

TV's are 2-D...the real world is 3-D.

At least now, with the advent of LCD/LED/plasma displays, we don't have to worry about X-ray radiation, like we did when I was a child.

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer went back to his dilapidated old childhood home.  In the living room you could see his silhouette burnt into the wall due to him sitting in front of the old TV set for so long

That's a really interesting article GT40, thanks for posting it.

I remember when I first started playing games like Tomb Raider years back and even that had an effect on my vision.  We would play for hours into the night and be completely engrossed in the 3D effect.  When it came time to walk down the stairs to go to bed I had a hard time figuring out where I should put my feet and the steps looked really weird.

I guess after so much gaming my eyes and brain had got used to the 3D world of the game and when I came back to real life it took a while to adjust.

It took a little while to get back to normal.  It's worth taking notice of the hazards...
