The Supernatural
« on: July 22, 2019, 06:54:50 pm »
Is there anything to it? What do you think, and do you have any stories? Are ghosts imprints of people, and if so, can we imprint ghosts into robotic bodies? I heard this story about a supernatural encounter on smarter every day's podcast a few years ago and I can't forget it. I'm thinking that maybe it pays to be agnostic about this stuff rather than just full on atheist.

As a younger guy, and a passionate evolutionary athiest, I would've detested what Ive become now.  Now I think the absurd reality of nature being a intervened half developing creation, seems more probable to me.  I think evolution by itself cant make things as fun as if god decides things happens instead.   In other words, I believe evolution by itself is not as interesting, without god making a "garden" for himself, to make things happen, that evolution by itself wont develop.

Gods hand is always here,  to protect things as he likes them to sit.  If you want to meet god, one way is to change things, god will come into your life, to stop you from doing it.

The supernatural is a huge topic. For myself, I've fallen into the adage 'The older you get, the more you realize you don't know.' There have been some awfully convincing ghost videos--and orb videos--on YouTube, for example, and such videos combined with UFO videos with their resulting insights and hearsay, combined with extensive evidence of coverups from government, combined with biblical material talking about the master deceiver, combined with the Donald Marshall revolution--which talks about how military sector technology is already capturing souls that depart the body, then downloading them back into cloned bodies via supercomputers, and how DNA acts as antennas that hook onto the soul--combined with hearsay about secret drug experiments by the military industrial complex to communicate with interloka beings that inhabit our space but on a different frequency--all have me marveling about how much is going on that the average person knows nothing about, and how the average person is living in an extremely parochial and unreal world. I have references for all the above, if anybody's interested in any of those particular topics.

P.S.--I think I'll add a few references below, at random over the next few days, on some of these topics in case anybody is afraid to ask.

HS your right the more treats in your bag the more nipper u can tick but you have to not put silly stuff in their too that you know is wrong, we know god and spirits don't exist, we know we are hardcore machines. So you're killing your treat bag when you put that in their, because it's a really terrible effector. I am strong because of my decisions, yous are weak because of your hopes.

You know what I think is weak, Locksuit? Saying "we know" and taking it for granted that other people will agree with you. At least some of us DON'T know anything of the kind.

"Yous are weak because of your hopes," says the guy who hopes that AGI will become ASI, make him immortal, and usher in utopia. C'mon, Lock. If your past posts are any indication, you've got about as many hopes as the most devoted religious person. You just attach them to a different object ... an object which potentially requires as much faith as God. There is no certain proof that we will even manage to invent AGI within your lifetime, let alone proof that AGI will successfully bootstrap itself to ASI, or that the ASI will do what you hope it will do.

Have a little humility and let HS explore the possibilities. Since HS never even said why he finds this interesting, could be it's simple curiosity and has little to do with hopes for life after death or whatever.

For my part, I see no particular reason why all modes of existence should be directly accessible to our senses and instruments. I see no reason why there shouldn't be things "out there" that touch our experience only rarely and unpredictably. Assuming that common and scientific knowledge, i.e. that subset of facts which we poor humans have been or will be able to rigorously verify, counts as all of it, seems unwarranted.  While I try to avoid believing in anything specific without some evidence, staying open to such evidence when/if one finds it is a good posture. I'm definitely not revealing my whole position with that, but I'll leave things there for now.

If can make AGI, how to make AGI, if can make AGI in my lifetime, if will become ASI and will so fast enough, if ASI will do what I want it to do.

Haha true.

There is a lot of background to my beliefs of course, that say yes to all of those events. I've viewed myself and data enough to know how I work and what AIs will can do.

Lock,
Right now you believe what you believe and have formulated opinions based on those beliefs but rest assured, your beliefs WILL CHANGE during the next several decades of your life. Some of these future changes to your way of viewing and thinking about things will dramatically be in conflict to what you think you now know!
It's as one gets older one often gets validation of personal "theories, thoughts, beliefs or views" and also gets a rejection of some of these as well.

We learn as we go through life and a lot of people learn to Adjust. Life is a series of Adjustments for us.

Just something to think about...
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Right! Of course, you do!

For others...not so much.

By the way, Andy. Have you seen the Joe Rogan podcasts with Graham Hancock and Randal Carlson about ancient civilizations?

No, but that's right up my alley, so I'll look it up. I also believe the evidence for very advanced ancient civilizations on this planet is very strong, and I do tentatively believe such civilizations existed. That's another huge topic, though, worthy of a separate thread if enough people are interested.

As a child I long used to believe in many supernatural things, including a deity, fairies, alien crop circles, ESP, ghosts, etc. We regularly saw convincing documentaries about them (much dramafied of course). Until, one by one, explanations arose. The deity's story didn't add up, the fairies were doctored photos by two old housewives, crop circles were man-made with rope and plank, many ESP people proved to be frauds, haunted houses eventually turned out to be Radon-gas induced hallucinations, sightings of alien lights were sometimes rare cases of lighting plasma bolts. I like to keep an open mind, but the record is in favour of skepticism.

Everyone knows most kids believe in ghosts, fairies, aliens, God, etc. In fact with very young kids, you can just "say it". Their parents are really good at this, but I'll be quite now. They can get out of it, or into it, but it takes more evidence now. Do you think you are much older? Even korr is 419 and still adorable! Some are 40 years old and quite dumb, some are 40 years old and quite smart, but you will always be a baby (so long as human), even with all of Man's Wikipedia passed down. Also yes, everyone has all the Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean they are on the right track.
