Title: Watch your downloads
Post by: Art on May 07, 2015, 09:49:22 am
A friend from another forum passed this on to me this morning. Check out this latest article. It details one of the latest computer threats and once you get it (or it gets you), your computer is pretty much toast! (or a brick...choose your terminology for a dead, non-operable computer).

Not to worry too much though, someone who knows what they are doing could repair the MBR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_boot_record) or if it came to it reinstall the OS.

Not a totally bricked computer, it could quiet easily be repaired.

Will keep an eye open for this one.

Thanks for the heads up  :)

Yes, isn't fix master boot record part of the repair anyway? Still, sage advice to always be careful what you download or click on. Chances are that if a Nigerian president is offering you gold, it's probably not likely to be true.

Yes a bit of common sense can go a long way.

I believe you are correct squarebear.

Good advice Data! If anyone is going to backup their MBR or any other part of their drive, do make sure it is clean BEFORE doing so (run a proper Anti-Virus, anti-malware program FIRST). Just my $.02.
