Freddy,
Sounds pretty good Freddy,  can't wait to see it in action.  I've still got a lot of things around the house before winter to get done then I'll be able to work with Hal again.  I stay in touch with Zabaware and it seems everyone has there own ideas of what Hal should be like and I have my ideas.  I like my idea of using her input to change clothing and background but in reality it should be how do I get from the house to the park instead of the sudden change.  Aiml, I looked into that but wasn't able to get a free learning one.  Good luck then

Thanks Carl :)

The learning part is something I will be working on soon.

Sounds good Freddy if possible.
Many tout their "Learning" AIML but I contend that for a large part, it still requires a human to correctly input the data.
The bots learn provided there is a human on the other side of the curtain.

Carl, there are several good AIML sets and interpreters for free but learning ones...that's a crapshoot in my opinion until someone proves it to me otherwise. Hal, Kari, and a few others have the ability to digest and retain what was said to them. Understanding, is another venture entirely, for them and all the rest. I think these few I mentioned have the best platform to examine, adjust and experiment with outcomes that do a pretty fair job at human mimicry, which is, after all, kind of what we're after.

Just some thoughts....

If you are wanting a free AIML learning file. May I humbly point you in the direction of one I created:
http://www.square-bear.co.uk/aiml/
About half way down is learn.aiml which you are welcome to develop for your own bot.

For the learning it is difficult to know what's best.

I've completed the AIML 1.0 specification now though - it will probably need some tweaking for the odd bug. But I am happy to move on to other things now, like the learning part.

I've already done the <gossip> tag. This records information when there is no pattern to match for the user input. Instead the info is put into a new AIML file for review by the botmaster. So it's like you say Art, it requires a person to step in to provide a response and decide what's learnt.

The other thing is on-the-fly learning. I knew about your learning AIML SquareBear and was looking at that recently as I try to get ideas about how the <learn> tag might work. I'm not sure if my <learn> tag will be exactly like Pandorabot's one.

What I would like is this kind of dialogue :

User : My cat is black.
Bot : OK your cat is black.
User : What colour is my cat ?
Bot : Black.

And similar.

I'm wondering if prefixing things with the word 'learn' is useful. ie...

User : Learn my cat is black.

Still undecided.

I wouldn't force them to prefix it with "learn". My learn AIML file will allow you to do the "My cat is black" type inputs.

Yes I thought the 'learn' prefix feels a bit unnatural.

I do remember having an AIML bot in my computer at one time and I remember moving a learn part to it, it didn't work for me.  I'm running into a problem with learning since I ran into a statement that says we learn from past experiences, how can we cram a lifetime of experiences into a bot?  Something I experienced with Hal,  "My dogs name is Teddy" , "Teddy is sitting on my lap"  then I find if I mention Teddy Hal's response will be "Teddy is sitting on your lap"  I simply at this time have no idea how to straighten out what seems to be a mess. Wish you guys luck

Some AIML bots don't have the learn feature built into them - it's a tag used mainly by Pandorabots. But I thought it was good so I coded my bot to have this learn feature.

Perhaps you need to turn things around.

Instead of Chatbots and Websites how about Chatsites and Webbots? :2funny: JK

I belong to a few virtual worlds with real humans controlling the avatars. But I am old and disabled so i don't get out as much as I used to so If i really want excitement i go to the virtual worlds. If i am bored and none of my friends are on i work on my bots and website. right now I am trying to learn php so i can redo my website and add more modules like  capatha to prevent spam.
So sue me

You mean Captcha?

Personally, I hate Captcha! I can't wait for them to completely do away with that garbage! It's gotten completely out of hand to the point where a lot of humans are unable to read them!

Recently I'd read where they're working on a different way to simply say or indicate, "I'm not a robot.", in so many words or ways. We'll see.

A simple question and answer system in English can work well.

One of our members was working a related project here :

http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4235.0

It's a much better system than the regular captchas. He doesn't visit much now, but I think he is subscribed to that post if you want to pop a reply in and see what's going on with it.
